I created a womens ecommerce site with some friends, took $1M in VC, grew it to several million in revenue per year, then the business fell apart when we realized scaling would not solve our net income issues. Online womens fashion is a ha

By 2010, the commute in SF was worse than LA. While caltrain & bart do help in SF, when it breaks, you got problems. Bart is pretty reliable but Caltrain seems to break or hit something/someone a few times a month.

I prefer any formatting over no formatting. If had to choose then I would do this: * Lowercase for tables & columns and upper case for syntax. * Having commas first makes it easier to move lines around. * I avoid small aliases to minim

I thought the same thing with VNC. GotoMyPC took something that was free, improved it, then made a fortune on it. While the technology improvements were notable, I think their success was derived from marketing.

It helps to be right to win a lawsuit but before that you need enough money to defend yourself. I once had pfizer go after one of my domains and all it took was an inch thick cease and desist notice to convince me to hand it over. Surely

A guide is better than no guide. I like the part about adding suffix strings to variables. Two things I would changes * Add commas before the variable * Do not use single letters for aliases. Some versions of hive will throw exceptions.

What an ignorant article. It's unrealistic to expect cryptocurrencies to behave as flawlessly as wire transfers. The technologies need to mature. But for those with patience, they're pretty awesome.

10 year old company, raised $165M in 7 rounds and now wants $75M more from the public. I'm guessing full ratchets are part of some of those private rounds and the news will shock employees when the IPO.

I was at a company that had an IPO, it did poorly and it was then that I learned about a Full Ratchet. Those are terms in fine print that employees are never told. Ugh...

Often times, part of being an entrepreneur or creating a startup is doing it lean. Living off rice and beans and ramen. Doing that at a fancy ski resort sounds impractical.

Nothing. $181M at $1.5B sounds pretty good to me. But in reality the employees are no richer today than they were yesterday. If everything goes right and the stars align, in several years there will be a liquidity event for investors, th

TL:DR Abbreviated variables are not always intuitive to others. I tend to agree. If you're going to use a pattern or abbreviation then be as non-creative as possible.

I think the conclusion is this. Data Scientists, Data Engineers, and Infrastructure Engineers exist in their respective roles. Data Engineers should enable Data Scientists to be better engineers by creating frameworks for Data Scientists.
