Read the entire article. In it he praises hackernews then says it needs to filter to top 10 items, as slashdot did. He says twitter is fundamentally broken. He says reddit is too big.

He seems convinced that /. was the last great success in tech news and there will never be another to replace it. IMHO it failed for 2 reasons, too many political articles & social news is better than news aggregators. In the end

Ah, I was that guy. Doing affiliate marketing, cashing $20k checks per month in my 20s, not saving a penny & partying endlessly. I was in the online meds industry. When someone's site went down you didn't know if it was a netw

Ah, I like the guy who lists his databases knowledge to include Excel & XKeyScore. Either XKeyScore is so slick that it is indistinguishable from Excel or this particular person doesn't know what a database is. Either way, that ca

IMHO hacking is doing something you're not supposed to in such a unique way that it is considered clever, skillful and attractive. Increasingly people call themselves hackers by doing something that is trivial, unskilled or uninterest

The point of the article is to say everyone should have experience working at a large company to get perspective. The same thing can be said for small startups. The debate over which is better is endless and childish.

I had a moment just like this. We would be short $20k on payroll and the founders and myself and to come up with the difference. That sucked. Reality really sinks in when you are not in a good place to write those checks but you write th

An objective point here...if enough NY & CA residents moved to Texas to swing it to a blue state then the Republican party would be doomed.

What is comes down to is use any type of formatting as opposed to no formatting. Too often people crank out code, do not comment it and do not format it. This applies to every language. So far as SQL syntax goes, what irks me are: *

What personal drug habit requires $50k? If it is blow, that's at least an 8-ball every single day for a year. I can only guess you're buying that volume of drugs to resell it. Which is essentially why the guy in NZ was caught.
