I actually spoke briefly with Stefan at the very beginning of LT about how Julia could fit really nicely. It's something I'd like to see myself when the plugin stuff is released :)

The project has a different name, but it's not divergent from LT, it's an extension of it. JS, Python, and even Clojure are far from the ideal for what we could be doing if we took the ideas behind LT to a logical extreme. What I

Updated docs are coming soon, just didn't want to hold the release any longer. In your user behaviors add this: :editor [:lt.plugins.vim/activate-vim] and then save.

Sorry, we haven't had a chance to update the docs yet - we didn't want to hold the release any longer. It's at the top of my priority list as soon as I get done moving apartments this weekend. ctlr-o is the equivalent of ctrl

Yeah, gauging your audience is a different aspect of this problem entirely. If Arc's ultimate audience is intended to be HN that's probably not a very good strategy, but if it isn't, then it doesn't really matter. You&#x

Isn't this a problem that the market will correct? If Arc the language has a significant enough following, then "Arc" in common use will refer to the language. I'm not saying people should go around picking names others

As I recall, Dirpy had hundreds of thousands of users. That's a lot of video transcoding.

Perhaps I should phrase it as "all good names"...

Arc the language hasn't been officially updated in 4 years. All names have been used at some point - it's not realistic to expect them to be truly unique.

Before I worked for ReadyForZero and before I started Light Table, I built a whole bunch of "real-time" infrastructure for a little live-blogging as a service company I started called TypeWire. It was miserable, difficult, full of

Haha it sucks actually - I love talking about this stuff, but I know I really need to save it for my talk so I'm tearing myself to pieces trying to keep quiet. I guess one thing I will say is that our definition of programming is all o

It's a fun talk by Bret and I think he echoes a lot of the murmurings that have been going around the community lately. It's funny that he latched onto some of the same core tenants we've been kicking around, but from a very

You get CLJS eval in Light Table :) Open a cljs file, open a browser, point it to a page that has the initial output of a leincljsbuild run, and press cmd+enter (or ctrl+enter) in your file.

Initially it will likely be easier to write plugins in ClojureScript, but there's nothing preventing JS ones from being written. Before the plugin stuff goes completely public, I'll probably write a little JS shim layer that makes

Fipp is awesome and I'd love to use it, but there doesn't appear to be a clojurescript implementation of finger trees and last I knew he hadn't solved the print-length/depth problem either.

See my "The IDE as a value" post which gives a good overview of how it all works: http://www.chris-granger.com/2013/01/24/the-ide-as-data/ It's all ClojureScript all the time :) Clojure is

I tried the alternatives and they were fundamentally unworkable. The cost here wasn't that great, mostly it was a matter of figuring out the least bad solution to the problem. Compared to the issues I ran into with java-based integrati

I'm not sure I'll do it, but that's my answer for almost everything at this point. Ultimately this is why I'm taking the strategy I am - plugins will be able to do anything I can do quickly and efficiently. Integrating a
