calcsam: How do you think about defensibility? One might think that because the underlying tech is open source, someone else can also spring up a hosting service. Is that not an issue because agencies would want the official hosting for the

My comment is not meant to be a defense of Gladwell. Just that this title is link bait, and this study is not conclusive.

This study only interviewed 13 violinists. That's not a large number to invalidate.

Usually debuggers take extra steps to set up, and I find it only helps for code that's really hard to reason about. But the most time consuming thing is just stepping through the code, and if it happen to go too far, I have to start ov

Depends. If I'm just sketching something in code, or I don't know what I'm actually building, I'll write it out in code first. However, if I'm designing a known thing, where I understand what it's suppose to do

Typically, people that lend out their money for longer periods of time want a higher interest rate for lending out that money, than if they lend out at a shorter time frame. The yield curve inverts when the interest rate you get for lending

At the source, they sign their prices. If a source isn't willing to sign, you'd have to trust proxy signers to sign the price for the source. Reporters read from the signers (proxy or the original), sort the prices, and try to wri

So you're building a program that can learn to write datalog programs. Is it because datalog programs are tedious enough they should be automateable? Why this particular research direction? > The space of hypotheses doubles in size

Are people using RDF a lot nowadays? I don't see it often, besides in the Java world. What use case did you want to use datalog for with RDF graphs?

Why would ad-hoc scripting require more flexibility with a type system? What kind of flexibility? Is it that you need more types? Or more union types to handle all the different variations that are the same, but all slightly different?

It looks like there's a beat frequency. The traffic goes up and down weekly, and probably there's less traffic on the weekends (yay! HN gets out on the weekends). But it seems like there are 6 months cycles as well. I wonder why,
