Another purely anecdotal comment, but I came off (as in just stopped opening) Facebook about 4 years ago. I missed it for about 2 weeks; it was very habitual to just open Facebook when you think you need something to do. But honestly, i

Seeing the same trend in web/ecommerce development. The brand needs a simple site with a little bit of dynamic sprinkled through it. The agency chooses to build a full SPA with all the bells and whistles. In doing so they neglect/

I like these stories. I think they resonate well for 'the rest of us'. I've made plenty of mistakes like this - you learn and grow, right? One of the best things about HN is that so many incredible, talented people post. It&#

Agree with you so much. It still feels absolutely magical wearing one. The SKX007 was my first automatic watch and I wore it daily for 10 years. Incredible thing.

Even if you can't tell the difference in quality, for some of us (thank god we're all different!) there's a certain feeling attached to purchasing things. Like being a kid and getting Jordan's as opposed to a regular b

Retargeting works, which is why companies continue to spend money on it (and I'm speaking from personal experience). You can set it up to exclude purchasers. I agree ads don't always get it right, but they're a long way from

No, YOU don't. Thankfully we're all different. FWIW, much like the author, I much prefer targeted ads to random ones. Retargeting generally has an influence on me when I'm still in the 'decision' phase.

That's great! Do you have a favourite? Do you store them or wear them? What's your daily driver? To a much lesser extent (financially!) I was a bit of a sneakerhead. I still have unworn pairs but recently I've made a thing of

I had this discussion with a friend a few days ago. We both did CS in the late 90s/early 00s. He said he was telling his kids not to bother with University if they didn't want to (as opposed to being pushed by our parents/tea

I think this is a deliberate choice. The sweets are all American. As a Brit, hearing 'candy' makes me think of American sweets, hearing 'sweets' makes me think of rhubarb and custard.

Semi related aside - it was a good post day today. I've been after a book called "Flip The Script" for ~10 years, but being out of print the prices are crazy. It's recently been reprinted, arrived today, and it's ab

No, you're absolutely right. But being in the UK (and the vaccine being provided by the NHS) does mean it's highly, highly unlikely that they were vaccinated as it has not been offered to the under 5s.

This article: https://www.newscientist.com/article/2315740-mystery-outbrea... - states the kids were aged 2 to 5, which is too young for the vaccine.

Cool project! Just a quickie, but might be worth changing "nitty gritty" to "the details". Depending on the etymology you look at, the term could be considered offensive (so probably not worth the risk!).

Sure, but Swatch have been adding auto movements to watches for 30 years. The Sistem51 is almost good enough to be COSC certified. All cheaper than the MoonSwatch pricepoint. IMO they could have put an auto movement in, but then it becomes

This looks lovely, well done! Regarding the cut off, why not use: min-width: 1199px; overflow-x: scroll; on the <body> element, and change the 100vw on the 'css-obv7rs' element to 100%? (And you may need some more tinkering,
