Apple finally realized they weren’t very good at hosting stuff. They never were. Plus, it’s a no brainer leveraging Google and AWS. Their global footprint and expertise alone is worth it. Also, $300 million a year is a drop in the bucket to

I thought it was pretty well known that nothing stored on iCloud is encrypted. It’s encrypted on your iPhone, but once it leaves your iPhone it becomes unencrypted once stored in iCloud. This is also why they can comply with law enforcement

The developer probably commented out the authentication begrudgingly because he was requested to do so. If a user forgets their password or buys a used drive then they won’t know the password. It’s common in the hardware industry to be able

Generally speaking, I think two things went wrong here. 1. Almost anyone seeing all the warning signs probably didn’t think an entire building could collapse or partially collapse. Things could look terrible, but maybe not enough to say, “I

This actually isn’t such a bad idea. Parents being able to see their children and what they are encountering during the day. I would even say that the schools shouldn’t be allowed to see this. Only the parents.

The article didn’t really add anything new or any new perspectives. I imagine it was a “check the box” post to make sure the site included something major like this.

Slightly off-topic, has anyone else noticed higher latency with internet traffic going in or out of Germany? Just in general? Frankfurt was mentioned in the post and I immediately thought it would be a bad idea because I’ve always seen USA

Depends are which side of the table you’re sitting at. I like Brave and many other people do. Just look at any of the other HN posts about Brave. Since I like Brave, from this side of the table it looks like the anti-Brave people come out i

Don’t fool yourself. It’s not “handsomely”. There is a cap. It also usually doesn’t even come close to offsetting property taxes. Go buy a house. Then I’m guessing you won’t take the deduction on your taxes because you’re thinking of the im

I’m guessing another lousy side of this is the toxic HR as mentioned in the post. Let’s say you lasted a year and left. Now you can put Amazon on your resume. However, HR is so toxic that they’ll never give you a good reference if someone c

Title says 2013. Wasn’t it only in recent years that people were brining typewriters to Starbucks. Maybe it was never considered cool, but it wasn’t treated like this person. Funny how time changes things. It’s like the “nerds” that were tr

Not funny. Pretty much worse fucking case scenario. Imagine Signal, Telegram, or any other app that touts themselves as a secure app is really just the creation of the FBI, NSA, CIA, and NRO. Remember, yesterday’s conspiracy theory is today
