True to the title and not the article, I actually went through this phase recently. I was interviewing for a new job that I was excited about getting. I purposefully never got my hopes up, but towards the end I knew I was going to get the job.
I went into 2 weeks notice mode. I started getting stuff done that I put off doing. I finished stuff that were on my list of to-dos for years. I was extremely productive. Felt amazing, and that feeling has continued on and I’ve continued to be more productive than I ever have. I got out of my rut.
Force yourself into the mindset that you only have 30 days left to get things done. It may work wonders for your productivity.
- yosito 5y agoA couple of months ago I did a similar thing by making a "Before COVID is over" todo list of projects I wanted to complete and goals I wanted to accomplish before some kind of "normal" life came back. I got an insane amount of things done. I'm finishing the last item on that todo list today.
- Taylor_OD 5y agoThe first few months of covid for me was getting the massive backlog of things I needed to do done at home. It was fantastic to feel like I actually had a balance in my work and home life for once.
- maininformer 5y agoor as the stoics say, what if this was the last time you are doing X? ;)
- claaams 5y agoI am the exact opposite. My two weeks mode is turn off and enjoy life mode. Work stress drops to near 0 and I rediscover things I enjoyed doing again.
- eganist 5y agoIndeed, and my guess is that this is the general consensus (though nothing wrong with the opposite). https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Checked%20out https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Checked%20ou...
- Cthulhu_ 5y agoI'm similarly in a bit of a rut; my codebase is in decent shape, my backlog could use a lot of work but eh, and there's enough work and job security at my current job to last me years if I want to. I mean I don't, and I won't see this product be finished unless we suddenly get a lot more people to work on, but still.
