I've taken to calling it autoincorrect. The prediction model for phone text seems to only consider word frequencies and blindly replace "were" with "we're" or its with "it's" every time it is enc

Apple had a huge head start with Siri but has been surpassed quite handily by Google and Amazon for some time now. I'm not sure we can simply rely on the passage of time for Apple to improve these large projects.

Only a few milliseconds at the speed of light. We could eliminate the problems of traffic, infrastructure, energy, and housing costs if we could only agree that forcing everyone to meet in the same place at the same time is no longer necess

Rosalind is a great intro to the fundamentals like graph and set theories, efficient string algorithms, combinatorics, etc. My one criticism is that the examples for some problems are trivial and don't adequately account for any of the

The niche for this device is high random read performance in workloads where the dataset is too large to fit in RAM, for a significant price premium. Random write and sequential read/write performance is poor value compared to cheaper

This is perfect. The only thing that made Adafruit less than ideal was the shipping cost and delay for small purchases. If I can just hop over to a local retail site and get what I need for my projects I will be so happy!

In this case, a more relevant example from World War II might be the exploitation of flaws in the Enigma machine, namely: 1) the re-use of common phrases in weather reports, and 2) the fact that a letter could not be encoded as itself in th

John Siracusa and Marco Arment are great at getting to the parts where Apple can improve. My only fault with them is their idea of Windows seems stuck in the days of XP. Casey Liss, however, is just a cheerleader who would rather self-flag

They're certainly not putting a 300 Watt gpu in an all-in-one enclosure. The only way that would work is if they used the closed loop cooler version, which is too bulky.

It's a lot faster if you use python's itertools and operator itemgetter: def gen_stats(data): start = time.time() stats = [] data.sort(key=itemgetter(0)) for p_id, p_items in itertools.groupby(data, key=itemget

Why bend over backwards and cut yourself off from your college community just to cater to jerks? Do you think the mods of HN are "hyper-sensitive pricks" for trying to preserve the quality of discourse here? People seem to live un
