- xtracerx 9y agoI don't think it failed, it just said you had to use passcode on first login after restart, just like the touchID
- vidoc 9y agoIt totally failed, those guys repeat those demos for months and there is absolutely no way the phone was in such a state.
- Karunamon 9y agoIt looks like it unexpectedly rebooted prior to the demo as the message on the screen was something like "You must enter your passcode before using Face ID". Something similar comes up on reboot for touch ID users. You have to enter your passcode once on startup to decrypt the storage where the fingerprint data is stored.
- thirdsun 9y agoShould be pretty easy to find out in a replay or screenshot. If it was indeed after restart it’s not failed but a deliberate design decision.

- eeeeeeeeeeeee 9y agoHe went to the backup phone after and said as much, it clearly failed. No way that was intended behavior.
- basch 9y agowhat does your touch id do if you have doritos on your thumb, or your phone in the shower too long? (it asks for your pin)
- freyir 9y agoThe message during the demo said "Your passcode is required to enable Face ID" This indicates an error. When you have too many failed Touch ID attempts, the iPhone says "Your passcode is required to enable Touch ID" After you restart your phone, the message is "Touch ID requires your passcode when iPhone restarts"
- gre 9y agoNah, he used his backup iPhone and it worked!
- shard 9y agoI hope they include a backup iPhone with every purchase.
- S_A_P 9y agoI saw that- I am very curious how this will pan out as its released. I am wondering how well it will really adjust to your face changing(for instance a significant weight loss/gain, or injury)
- mlpinit 9y agoIt looked like he had a backup phone for that. For the fingertip version every once in a while you have to put in the passcode. I assume that's what happened in his case as well...
- mikestew 9y agoMe (as he gets ready to unlock): "Well, it's Apple, so it's got to work better than that horrendous alpha version of facial recognition on that POS Samsung Note...oops, guess not."
- fatbird 9y agoBill Gates got a BSOD during a big demo. Shit happens.
