Why shouldn't we expect people who work in cities to be able to live dignified lives in those cities? There are always going to be janitors, home care providers, baristas, grocery store employees, etc. Our daily lives depend upon them.

The fact that people don't stick to diets is why they don't work. This is what I mean about discounting the human element. A solution requiring every individual to do something incredibly difficult is no solution at all. It'

I'm sick of the "it's just calories in, calories out, idiot!" bullshit. It's at least partially wrong an woefully incomplete. Telling a fat person to eat less is like telling a depressed person to get out more. I kn

All Ph.D. programs nominally charge tuition, but hardly any students (at least in STEM, don't know about elsewhere) pay it. They get a stipend plus a "tuition waiver".

I think a lot of commenters are missing the point of this site. It's an opinionated collection of books they think should be weeded. They're specifically talking about libraries trying to provide information to the general public.

Well, this guy was a #1-ranked MTG player, so it's not a fair comparison for most of us mortals. It took me hundreds of tries and some very good luck to beat A20.

Note that this isn't the big multi-state case, but a case brought by the city of Baltimore. This hearing was not on the merits. The upcoming decision is about whether the lawsuit should be heard in state or federal court. I presume fed

Yeah, I agree that there's too much focus on highrises as a fix our housing supply. The units you get by replacing a block of detached homes with mid-rise apartments add up fast. Side-note: Learning about one-plus-fives was one of thos

TFA explains at length that the power generating facilities are only half the problem. The other half are the gas wells and pipelines themselves. Fully winterized gas plants still can't make electricity if they can't get any gas.
