Well you got your wish. Gonna be honest and say I’m not sure I’m enjoying HNs move to follow twitter and facebook to micromanage discussion to this degree. I really don’t think we were being uncivil in having a discussion about what we appr

I don’t think of him as shining. I like that he’s a real person, flaws and all. Not someone to idolize. Many great hackers that I know and in general are total jerks (I suspect the trait helps wrangling a machine somehow but idk). I wouldn’

I have gone to college with similar overachievers/braggers, and now that you mention it if they were in the spotlight as much as him I'd roll my eyes pretty hard. Still though, having not gone to college with this particular one s

I like this guy mostly for preserving a hacker-ish culture in the atmosphere and for just being a real human being in public. Too often do I feel like I'm just interacting with interfaces to corporations or people who self censor thems

There's a big part of me that agrees with this. I am a bit worried though that we're making it harder and harder for new people coming into the world to make new startups, with more and more rules like this imposing a higher entry

Ever since HN allowed non technical news I find it actually kind of rare to have a high percent chance what I clicked on be related to coding. I see it more like an alt reddit nowadays.

Seems like it might be satire after all. The bot follows and is followed by this account @exclusive-human-programmer, which has the following content in their readme: https://github.com/exclusive-human-programmer/exclus

What about that site makes you think it's satire?

Or that these days even people of color saying the n word is condemned, whereas just a few years ago (months?) it was sort of accepted. Making that into a legal doctrine would be quite tricky.

I feel completely opposite, but I'm curious where you come from here? Could you say some words to explain what you mean?

To everyone reading this who feel the same: Please avoid commenting too much (unless necessary) since HN pushes down stories with lots of comments (to disincentivize flame threads) even if it has tons of upvotes.

They select for sociopaths coding these things. If someone is able to be bothered by these actions, they won't last long or will quit voluntarily and someone more sociopathic will take their place. It's a problem higher up the cha

I'd like to see 1980s-1990s graphics programmers get away with just discrete math for all the innovations they did in that period.

For anyone curious about what kinds of apps this person developed, this is what I could find https://steprimo.com/iphone/ph/developer/1076545147/Roberto-... Seems like an app providing radio for free.

I'm ESL and I wouldn't care if someone made fun of me like this. Let people have some fun, not everything has to be responded with with twitter level outrage.

That doesn't make much sense. You should be able to get arbitrarily good meshes by generating more and more viewpoints.

You can just make a mesh once you have the NeRF, which is plenty fast for VR. (What's important isn't new perspective generation but scene training. New perspective generation doesn't have to be real time just within a reason

Given the same amount of compute as this used, photogrammetry would be about as fast.

This is such a US worldview. As someone from europe, I'm still scared I'll stumble into a job where needing to code Java sneaks up on me (and quitting with leave and finding a new job is a few months endeavor). I wish it wasn'

I hope we'll see a return of libertarian values in tech culture in the future. There's been a ton of push to force every rule into law in the past few years. Not everything should be backed by force of violence. I hope this author

I think reconstruction time isn't about creating a new perspective but about the time that it takes to train the whole model given the images (taken from various viewpoints). As I understand it this took quite a while to train in the o

Immediately what I thought of. I miss this era of Weinstein when he stuck to conveying things the way he thought of them (with all the underlying mathematical abstractions intact) rather than simplify it to reach a broader audience.
