One factor many people forget was that Doug Engelbart did "The Mother of All Demos" back in 1968 to over 1000 computer professionals: http://www.wired.com/science/discoveries/news/2008/12/dayint... http://sloan.stanford.edu/MouseSite/196

Buildout came first and can do more things than pip can. If your workflow was heavily dependent on buildout, I could see how someone would see pip as inadequate. Buildout also came from the Zope community, so that will immediately break peo

Just in case people get confused (because there were multiple antitrust actions against Microsoft), the antitrust charges you mentioned were from 1991 (when Microsoft was investigated by both the FTC and DoJ), see: http://en.wikipedia.org/

Two additional bits of data in my quest to prove IE6 (released August 2001) wasn't what started it all and disprove the idea that there weren't any standards back then. From way back in Feb 16, 2001: From Table Hacks to CSS Layout: A Web De

I'd been developing for the web for almost 6 years and making my living on the web for almost 4 years when IE6 came out (August 27, 2001) and I certainly wasn't a pioneer. It was very primitive compared to now, but standards-based developme

You seem to be referring to info and quotes from this NY Times article http://www.nytimes.com/2012/01/20/health/research/new-autism... Dr. Volkmar --who you quoted-- is actually against the redefinition and is arguing that the redefiniti

It's because the linked article double counted inflation: "IBM’s 1967 market cap was not $1.3 trillion in real dollars, it was $192.3 billion"

From the Macworld article of the same day it was pretty clear that you needed to be part of the Apple developer program: http://www.macworld.com/article/1165408/mountain_lion_hands_... The Ars Technica article also is pretty clear: http:

Interestingly, it doesn't seem like the classes need to be different for it to work, at least on Safari 6.0 if you change all the classes to .c000 it works just as well as having different ones.

Standards for comma usage weren't established until almost the end of the 19th century. Some people used breathing or personal stylistics to decide on comma use, but there certainly was no general expectation that it would follow grammatica

In June 2008, their market cap was $83B. In June 2011, it dropped to $13.6B. Today they are down to $4B. As for cash on hand, they were sitting on twice that amount last year. The decline is extremely significant and it does no one any good

They had another massive decline in quarterly revenue YoY (-42.7% from Q1 2012 which was itself -30% from Q1 2011) and then they announced a delay on the BB10 phones until 2013, I'd say that bandwagon is right on this one.

I'm sure they do, but given that there won't be any BB10 phones released until 2013 and then the developer won't see any top off payment for another year after that, I guess the question should be "will RIMM still have $100M in the bank on

Seems like an odd sort of incentive to me. There is about 18 months worth of risk to the developer to invest on an unproven platform with a phone maker that has seen a dramatic decline in fortunes. No phones will be released until 2013, so

Possibly, but I've used only an Ethernet port on my laptop three times in the last year and I don't think I'm that far out of the norm. Once 802.11ac comes out Ethernet might finally be relegated to "the cable that I use to hook up my base-

If you start on December 2008 and end in May 2012, it is much easier to see the trend. I agree that it is an exaggeration to say rapid, but it does look like a definite downward trend for desktop and upward for mobile.

I wasn't saying that Google can only impress by firing people out of airplanes, I'm saying that if their products are good, that's enough, they can stand on their own, and people can be excited by the products themselves. Let me map it out:

Makes me wonder, Steve Jobs never needed to have someone jump out of a plane to get people excited about a product. I was far more impressed with the Nexus 7 and Jelly Bean than any of the rest of the demos.
