This was already happening 15 years ago. I drove a Fiat Stilo on the highway when it suddenly decided to shift to 2nd gear because a gearbox failure occurred. It was a known software error.

I heard from some architects that's the exact reason they stopped using photorealistic 3D renders. A lot of customers started to complain that the building looked totally different when finished.

I'm not sure this is always true. In The Netherlands a lot of bikes are stolen because people are too lazy to walk. Most of the time your stolen bike can be found again next to a bus stop or train station.

After reading a lot of Christopher Alexander I came to the conclusion that the key is to build for people. This applies to buildings but also to software. I think Seth is talking about this. So don't build (sofware) for: - status

What exploit? From the article: "... according to people familiar with the matter." There is absolutely no proof of an exploit here. There are a lot of people 'familiar with the matter' that talk BS. For example I hear

It does better when, for example, you have a field called 'id' in both tables. SELECT * FROM table1 JOIN table2 ON table2.rel_id = table1.id will use one of the 'id' field from table1 or table2 (de

Agreed. Or at least put a table name in front of the asterisk: SELECT table1.*, table2.field FROM table1 JOIN table2 ON table2.rel_id = table1.id

We also thought that using oil wouldn't harm the world. It's all about scale. Of course some solar panels are not going to harm the world. But what if we need, lets say, 1% of the earth covered with solar panels? If it's hard
