The problem with git is hardly anyone reads the fucking manual. Git is not hard. The UI is inconsistent, but documented. When you just foist commands onto people, you can't be surprised when they fall off the happy path and don't

Those are significantly worse, because they do not ambiguously state what @user@site does. This is such a minor thing to be up in arms about, aesthetically it looks fine and immediately communicates what it is.

It is now. But I see no point in using software that has such disdain for downstream users. I'd rather use software that treats me like an adult.

The next generation of social networks seems to be focused around decentralization. The protocol they developed ( https://atproto.com/ ) seems to differ with ActivityPub at least in "Algorithmic Choice", a "mar

What kicked this off was... adding a bog standard code of conduct. The latest commit removes this, with the message being "reclaim polymc from the leftoids". So this is a simply knee-jerk over-reaction.

Of course it will seem the same if you gloss over all the details that make life different! Those activities are shaped by the culture of those countries and are not the same. “Going to a bar” in the US and Korea are completely different ex

It’s impossible to predict the future. I would rather start with rails and rewrite portions later on, than start with Sinatra and shoddily reimplement rails features. I also just think Django is terrible compared to rails, and that may be w

Most sufficiently complex codebases that aren’t “framework” based will have a poorly implemented, feature-lacking, bug-ridden version of a framework eventually. If Django doesn’t fit the use case for your thing, don’t use it? Just don’t use

In order for something to be recognized as a word, it needs to have meaning and be understood by more than 1 person. For brevity's sake, when I said "it's a word", I really meant "it's a word that's used a

I love software like that, thanks for sharing. I do worry about seems like a single-user contributor project, though. Pleroma and Mastodon have healthy amounts of contributors and activity, so I feel more comfortable about going with them.

Check out pleroma. It uses much less resources than mastodon so it’s been nice as a single user instance.

Sure, implementation is easier said than done. That doesn’t change that, conceptually, having machines that you can destroy and spin up new ones at will is much better than bespoke “pet” instances. The “pet” stuff is used until someone sets

If enough people use a word, it’s a word. Many words were formed as mistakes, “apron” and “tornado” for example. Dictionaries follow how people are actually speaking, not the other way around.

Performances aren't practice. Practice is sitting down and working on what needs development, and doing self-introspection. Performances are where all of those get put together for an audience.

Personally, with things as serious as photo libraries, proprietary software is a no-go for me. I'd rather use something with community support like Lychee than pray that e.g. photostructure will be available years later.
