You can simply run wireguard yourself, no devices needed other than your laptop and a server in your home. You can run wireguard on a raspberry pi (which are hard to source these days) or something like an HP SFF workstation which will run

What does it matter if a user never interacts with that API or not? Rust is focused around -safety- and performance. I would rather have a slight performance hit and safe code, rather than trusting some random person to 100% correctly write

Welcome to HN/Reddit. Most threads have people commenting without reading the article at all (or very briefly skimming). More or less just reacting to the headline. And according to HN guidelines, we aren't supposed to comment on

I love my kobo. It's more open than kindles (you just mount it and shlep books over), and I like the kobo bookstore. That said, I had a kindle paperwhite and it was nice as well. If you want to run android apps then check out Boox. I i

Code monkeys are different than programmers (or "software engineers"). Nobody is learning, actually learning, all these topics in a condensed 3-month program. Good programmers are always going to have work, because there simply ar

For anyone who doesn’t know, Ted Gioia has published books like West Coast Jazz: 1945-1960, Delta Blues, and How To Listen To Jazz. I’m still reading through the first two and I can highly recommend them to anyone curious about the historic

It's brave now to deliberately choose to route infrastructure through neighborhoods that have minorities living in them? I think with today's politicians it's more of an issue of credit. These projects take a very long time,

What’s the logic behind comparing an online discussion board with random user-moderated subreddits to a financial institution? I’ve been using Reddit since 2010 without issues, behaving poorly enough to get permabanned (which is different t

This is a thorough misunderstanding of how dictionaries work. There is no all-powerful movement (composed of people who don’t want to work…?) dictating language changes. People update usage over time and dictionaries reflect that. It’s extr

I hardly ever remember dreams, maybe once per month or less. Sometimes if I eat specific foods like pizza right before bed it can trigger a potent dream, but I avoid eating stuff late at night now anyhow. I haven't specifically tried t
