Let's not kid ourselves. HN already has the problem of commentors not reading the article, we're just not allowed to discuss it as per the rules.

When you have software in prod failing because it was built by shoddy "AI" and people who copy/paste because they don't know any better, and you need a fix, give me a ring. I have tried using GPT4 & gemini extensivel

I like it for condensing long stack traces and very very simple requests, but it really falters when you try to do anything domain specific. Library documentation? Yeah, it doesn't really save time when GPT makes up functions and libra

Well yes, because the odds that the average user will need recovery for their account at some point are pretty likely. Email being as important as it is for identification, the last thing you want is to be locked out because of some extrem

It comes down to what you want to do and what you're comfortable with. For the last 4 years, I've used a Proxmox and LXC-based setup. I create LXCs for specific services like nfs, jellyfin, and minecraft where I can fine-tune the

Pedantic nitpick: it's not nonsense if the common person understands the meaning. Your average english speaker uses "decibels" to mean "dBSPL" since most people aren't aware of the other ones.

The youngest millenial is about 27. So replace "millenial" with gen-z or gen alpha, but really I would just delete the first sentence you have there. You can make an opinionated statement without arbitrarily dragging a cohort of p

That doesn't interfere with a push, you're just expecting to blindly push without considering the state of the repo.

This is not really compelling. Pulling and rebasing before a push is standard workflow and lets you test with the new changes before pushing.

I really hate that duolingo is perceived by so many people as a singular resource to learn a language. For certain languages it's a great -complement- and can be great for motivating you to study. But you need stronger primary resource

That there is any discussion on "what" instance to join. I understand this is the whole point of being a decentralized system, but your average person doesn't care about that for social media. Maybe I'm wrong and mastodo

The public at large doesn't care about any of that at all. I don't think mastodon will ever grow that large due to how painful the signup process is. And that's fine! But we have to acknowledge that only a very small portion

You're incentivized to either choose a stable, robust instance, or self-host. A lot of instances are pet projects that people kill off once they get bored of mastodon and don't want to pay for the upkeep anymore. Self-hosting is t

At some point, you all need to think about herd mentality. tiktok is much chagrined here, but it's not any more egregious than facebook, twitter, youtube, or reddit. The extreme aversion here to tiktok in particular is not well-informe

twitter, facebook, and reddit already did and do that and are far better at it due to being mostly images or text content. if anything tiktok pushes back on that due to the length of the videos.

Agreed, 180 days and no residency card makes this way too much hassle for the meager benefits. It's similar with the recent 1-year South Korean F-1-D Nomad/Workation visa for Canadians, who get 6 months as tourists anyways. I'

What killed Anki for me was having to add cards. It is such a chore adding single word cards. I also ran into the problem of increasingly niche synonyms that I'd learn, but would rarely see in text. For some reason I never really consi

There are many visas for rich people, like Korea's investor visa (500m KRW - $386,182k). I don't see why any country needs to put in the work for a visa for people who don't have any money. As I understand it, the whole point
