Yeah that’s easy. Rather than fix the last thing it’s easier to write a new turd from the ground up with the promise that it’ll solve all the last problems. Windows happens to have such legacy support and lack of product direction that’s it

That’s bullshit. Someone rolled their car into my front garden at 70+ mph in a 30 mph limit on it. The only good thing was it was at 3AM so there was no one around on a normally busy street to get wiped out. And your whole attitude of irrat

I’m with you on the fines. It’s about as pleasant as snooting up someone else’s bowel contents on a train. It is antisocial behaviour, has a health impact and needs to have a consequence.

A larger portion of them are from experience of hiring and being around people who smoke it. I would not employ someone who does because of those people. I have horror stories a mile long. I know this is unpopular on internet news sites but

Some do. The guy who left his car upside down in my front garden after rolling the car through my fence ended up being prosecuted for it.

I’ve stopped using cloud storage and backup now. The convenience is no longer worth the privacy and data loss risk. I’m not sure it even improved my life at the end of the day. Back to multiple offline hard disks stored in different locatio

If you’re building one then it’s not time saving. I prototype stuff like that is built today and most of the time it stays like it. Also it doesn’t always work the same when you get it on a PCB

All the cables were terminated inside the box and strapped every 1 inch with cable ties. Nothing was exposed that could be disconnected other than the monitor IEC lead.

We just broke the locks on the cages with a screwdriver. Locks only keep honest people honest.

When USB came out I was working in the defence sector. We closed the vector off with cages for the PCs with tied looms under desks, epoxy in all the holes we didn’t want people to use and with threat of being in deep shit.

Virgin are the worst provider there is. Literally I’m typing this now because two of the people I’m on a zoom call with bailed because their virgin connection crapped out.

Move to Zen or Andrews and Arnold if you are in the UK. Larger ISPs are cancer here.

Um, err, I’m an ex EE. Everything is analogue underneath, even digital. It’s all just shuffling electrons around. The whole device there is made from discrete opamps. Sure there are some flip flops in there but they are analogue too! (Build

Go is really simple. Took me a while to get that. The issue is it forces you to deal with things that need to be dealt with rather than leave them as an exceptional case (pun intended).

So much this. I tried starting a business doing something I love and I found out I don’t love doing accounts and supply chain management for it. I canned it and a £20k investment within a year. Now I do something I dislike that I’m good at.

I keep my stuff in files only carefully categorised in directories. I use Beyond Compare to do a byte level comparison between what’s on my disk and what’s on the (one of the several disconnected) backup volumes I use. That identifies corru

Oh yes completely. Half of ham radio is stories of the one that got away and that contact you made when your antenna was broken.

Hams used to put light bulbs on the end of their antennas to light up when they keyed down due to the standing wave on the antenna having high voltage at the end. I suspect that was part of the illusion and the story. It is however pointles

Have you sat with an average user? They have no idea what they are doing with these modern UIs. My mother with an iPhone is a fine example. Has no idea what to press or slide. She could use windows 7 fine. Anything later, more difficult.
