As a fairly regular consul cluster admin for the last 6 years or so, but not on that scale i can safely say that you generally have no idea if rolling back will work. I’ve experienced everything up to complete cluster collapses before. I sp

We have a box of bricked Google branded handsets in the office. It’s quite normal. They’re not worth repairing or replacing. Conversely we have no dead iPhones at all (apart from where some idiots cratered them). We’re rolling out iPhone 12

Fair point. VScode is pretty good. I mostly resent having to use a text editor and msbuild because the tools are made of butter.

What would be better is if they actually tore down the myriad of shitty misfeatures, bloat and bugs and did some housekeeping rather than change the theme and pile on features like an Indian train at rush hour. The one that kills me is the

I have a project here that won’t even open with Resharper on in VS2022. It just hangs and wedges the CPU at 100%, then my shitty laptop overheats and hibernates. Then I get pissed off and go for a walk and wonder why the hell I ever investe

Ignoring the entire article, after using it for 20 years now, it rots my patience and will to live on large projects. It’s like driving a 30 year old car that was serviced 20 years ago and veers off the road uncontrollably once an hour. I s

Isn’t this basically fuzzing? Making sure it works at the business domain level is another thing entirely.

As per the millenium bug timeline, I suspect we won't start worrying about it until about September 2037... I remember someone running into our office and asking if anyone knew Z80 assembly.

Yeah I just write a list down and pick one that's achievable based on current finances, situation, motivation and desires. I add them to the list as I think about them. To note I never mix my work objectives with personal ones. That

It tend not to set too many aspirational objectives as circumstances outside your control (think 2020, 2021) can end up in failure which is demotivating so I throw myself a new 4 week target every 4 weeks and work towards that. The first on

You can pair them with multiple devices. Pick up the phone and play music and it'll switch from your iPad to your phone instantly. It's pretty good. You can also pair multiple sets (temporarily) to your iOS devices to share music

The cloud cost reduction wave is here. After the inevitable waste reduction, the answer is always “rewrite everything from scratch cloud centric” which is expensive and risky due to further lock in on top of low confidence. So YMMV with tha

There will be the start of a cloud exodus due to the high profile outages, associated negative PR from end users, the completely missing ROI resulting in a pile of consulting opportunities opening up.

I don’t use either. I mostly use my mac as an AWS and linode terminal. I think the only things I install locally are VScode and Go and both of those arrive as dmg/pkg format.

I’ve taken about 8000 photos from iPhone 6 to 13pro and sifted through them all manually within a day or so of taking them and haven’t seen any anomalous things yet. The error margin is tiny and the benefits to the output are huge. My brain

All photos regardless of the source are a corruption of reality both semantically and technically speaking. I think they should always be used on a case by case basis with corroborating evidence.

Well it’s in telephoto and 1/121 exposure so the photographer was probably wobbling around like mad when it was taken and the overlay and computational image stuff got confused. I’m fine with this. I use a mini tripod with my 13 pro on
