"Snap will take 50% of the ad revenue generated by these shows and the content partners will keep the other half" Pretty interesting. Anyone know how this split compares to what FB is offering its partners to make original video c

I think people are writing off Snapchat prematurely after its first soft quarter. It takes a long time to build a successful advertising driven consumer application. I agree that Facebook’s aggressive cloning of stories has impacted Snapcha

“Amazon making a bid here sounds like a play for a decent social seed, likely steming from users of its core properties (shopping and dev). Of all the mega-corps, Amazon is one of the few that has all the pieces and user-engagement, but no

I really wish I was exposed to strength training during my school years. It's sad I only came across it randomly while doing Crossfit in my mid twenties.

I totally agree. I never actually went to a Dr to get my wrist pain looked into so I don't know 100% that it was RSI. I just kind of assumed that it was based on RSI being an occupational hazard for many tech folks. Changing my keyboar

Personal anecdote: I used to get wrist and back pains a few years ago. The two big changes which I attribute to completely getting rid of these issue was 1) Switching to a Microsoft ergonomic keyboard and 2) Regular weight training 3 times

Thats true (I've wrapped native code before) but if you use any native code you can’t use expos over the air updates or the qr code scanner. So it wouldn’t solve the parent comments problem, in that scenario, which is actually quite co

I didn’t down vote you. However it’s very likely that the guy isn’t using React Native and if he was he’d most likely know about expo and its limitations.

Yep. I do wonder if they employed some sort of shady tactic like this or my suggestion to get past app review. What surprising is they were still in the app store after 2 months. Apple usually pulls things pretty quick.

Maybe they used some code push tech similar to what rollout used to update the app after review.

I love expo to bits but their are many React Native scenarios where it’s not going to work. One example would be if an app uses third party libraries that rely on native code. Now on the surface this might sound like an exotic requirement b

wow, I'm pretty pissed off by this. One of my clients is a medical marijuana startup and we have had to jump through so many hoops to stay compliant with Apple's random app store rules. We have been rejected on several occasions a

Basically the reason this thing gets $300 million is because Andy Rubin is at the helm: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andy_Rubin His track record is amazing (Danger/Android). I agree 100% with everything you have

I'd agree with a lot of what you said. The only thing I'd challenge is the implied notion that startups are inherently doing more cutting edge stuff than bigco's. Right now I'm doing a lot of consulting/contracting

My experience as well. Startups are a lot of fun but not generally as lucrative, from an employees perspective, as bigcos.

It's entirely possible to negotiate option excercise dates. Asking for 5-10 years to decide if you want to buy is within the realms of possibility for software engineers at early stage startups (pre b round). Same with early excercise.

Startups say that but I think in many cases applicants go to startups because they can't get a job at a bigco that will pay them more. This especially true for new grads who didn't go to a shiny University. Now this isn't a b

Are you really going to be able to negotiate terms like that with a company that's at the stage where they are offering RSUs (I.e Airbnb)? I can imagine negotiating terms on options at earlyier stage companies. Wouldn't you have t

Working at a startup as an employee with the expectation your gonna get rich is a fools game. Negotiate for the best deal on options you can get (I.e quantity, terms like early excercise etc) but treat them as a lottery ticket. A startup is

Its fair to say that if you adopted Swift as soon as it was announced you should have expected some pain, especially given all the warnings Apple put out about it. I think the issue is that for the last year or two all of the tutorial websi

I don't think so. Mobile development is almost more about the underlying frameworks than the language itself. At some point Kotlin etc will have to wrap these things. The internal apple swift dev team will always be one step ahead of t
