React native isn't a hybrid app like Cordova. I recently gave a talk on the differences which you might find interesting: https://t.co/7A48VDRHXU?amp=1

Nice article. The lack of native iOS looking components would be a deal breaker for me. I wonder how stuff like navigation is built? If that's all in dart I'd be interested in seeing how the back stack looks in the hierarchy explo

Nope. React native doesn't use webviews to render its ui. Business logic and view configuration are in JavaScript but all rendering and event processing is done in native. Also it's easy to wrap native components and insert them,

If you do ReactNative and you don't need to write native code you can avoid this by using expo.

Nah. The main reason why Hybrid web apps suck today is because using a web view to render your ui fundamentally inserts a middleman between you the developer and the underlying memory management and ui rendering systems. This limits the typ

How does typescript compare to flow? I'd love to see a comparison with pros n cons. I haven't tried either yet and I'm curious if you have any recommendations re resources to read.

Everything by tal kol from wix re performance optimization is a must read. I also recommend checking out infinite reds GitHub. The Facebook React Native group is also a great resource.

I know realm has a React Native library which I imagine you could use to access the db directly. Can you do something like that with SQLite? I.e access it without going through java/the bridge?

What database were you using and what bottlenecks did you run into? Curious as I have yet to work with dbs in React Native.

Not that bad of an outcome really. I think Uber blew about $1 billion chasing after China.

Agreed. I imagine a more likely scenario is they slam on the breaks by raising prices and firing a bunch of people before they run out of money. This of course would tank the companies valuation and result in a big decline in ride traffic.

Didn't Uber get a significant chunk of Didi stock when it agreed to exit china? I have no idea how uber is doing overall abroad but china didn't appear to be a total wash for them at least.

Another thing to consider about Airbnbs nav stack is that it's written in swift. This is important because Apple can still make changes to Swift which can break language backward compatibility. This happened last wwdc. So if you use an

Code push doesn't push Native code. I think Rollout uses swizzling to send native code over the air to your app and then uses JavaScriptCore to inject it into your app at runtime. This always seemed pretty sketchy to me and I could se
