That's how the law is written. A newspaper can publish archives, but not do anything it likes with the influence of the front page.

Biological and chemical weapons were easy to ban because their use didn't provide the great powers any relative advantage. In fact Russia continued to have a very active chemical and biological weapons program, including stockpiles. Th

Every user downloads and runs arbitrary code constantly, as updates. In the far future updates might come with a formal proof of their security, machine-verified on download, but for quite a few years still we will be stuck with just crypto

Another thing is that Tor is global. People might not think twice about their security when they are effectively within the law or at worst may get a fine.

Despite having tried to google it a few times, I have never found a table of deaths by birth year over WWI or WWII for any country. You'd think it would be on Wikipedia. Even rough estimates would make for a nice blog post.

Yeah, just about the only reasons to use GTK+ in new projects are the plain C API and slightly better bindings. Qt bindings support deteriorated a little from Qt 4 to Qt 5 (python is there but still no java bindings as far as I can tell), w

The military might have some luck with such regulations, but I doubt civilian bureaucracy even pretends to care as long as the marriage actually exists on paper. It's just not enforceable.

QML is a declarative UI markup language with javascript scripting. Are there really any parallels to Swift? I haven't looked at it in any detail before.

Aren't neurons relatively sizable? I don't see why they would totally "decay" in a short time frame, but maybe it's because I'm ignorant.

I map esc to the key between left shift and Z. It doesn't exist on US keyboards, though. And I put backspace on caps-lock. What I don't understand is putting any kind of simultaneous combo key on caps-lock, since caps-lock + a is

Actually, it is also sort of the opposite in Finland. The student grants are smaller than unemployment benefits etc. If you just stay at home doing nothing you are eligible for more money than if you enroll as a student.

Japan is very different from the West though, so you should clarify which parts you think actually apply to Japan too. E.g. Japan is well behind the curve compared to the West when it comes to sex disparity in school dropouts or university
