The whonix setup has tor and your browser on different VMs, whereas tails relies on linux' firewall to funnel traffic through tor. Tails is "just" one kernel exploit away from deanonymization. More importantly, qubes is far s

Isn't I2P still "peer-to-peer" by default? That is, the fact your IP is connected to I2P is broadcast to everyone. That makes every disconnection an opportunity to trace you, directly and by elimination. It's especially

And you really should try to use a reputable VPN, like the one they recommend in the article. Plenty of VPN services are in the business of injecting ads and malware, logging your traffic, stealing passwords and credit card numbers, etc.

It takes decades for those trees to grow to firewood size. In the meantime there will be carbon "in flight". Since the trees will be cut down and burned again, effectively replanting only reduces emissions by some fraction, depend

That's a good suggestion. The teropa.info post was very helpful for reintroducing myself to web development after not touching it since 2008. I hope I'm not scaring anyone from getting started by adding I also consulted typescript

Freenet has only symbolic privacy protection for downloaders. Privacy is supposed to come from your node requesting not only blobs it is downloading for itself, but also blobs other nodes have requested from it. Unfortunately, as far as I u

Tails combined with any encrypted cloud hosting service accepting anonymous payments (e.g. mega.nz, though I'm sure there are ones with better desktop integration) would offer more deniability than any local solution could, though it&#

The most glaring fundamental omission of physics absolutely comes from everyday life. It is subjective experience, consciousness, qualia, or whatever you prefer to call it.

Isn't that a myth? Like pink and blue supposedly previously having been associated with the reverse genders.

The client has full control. Tor works by having the client chain proxies ("nodes"). Tor hidden services add some complications but in that case too the client creates its own half of the proxy chain.

apt and yum are emphatically better since at least they verify their sources and maintainers and sign packages, and it doesn't really require much compared to the effort put into actually writing all that packaged software. These scrip

So, what measures are they taking to match Berkeley undergraduate sex ratio (52.1% female 47.9% male [1]) with the sex ratio of the entire US in the same age range (51% male 49% female [2]). A woman is roughly 1.13 (13%) times more likely t

This murder has been discussed to death. It was plain enough from the beginning that Litvinenko was killed for defecting. I don't know why the story keeps resurfacing.

Bit flips will be detected on the next read via MAC failure. Bit flips can still be obnoxious, but they are prevented in the sense the CPU will start a reboot before accepting corrupt memory.

I haven't tested but I suspect there is still a distro issue - I haven't had any hardware compatibility problems on Ubuntu, but there are plenty of groanworthy desktop distro recommendations on the net.

Lubos Motl called out the specifics of the Energy Catalyzer hoax some years ago. I think it had to do with neglecting hydrostatic pressure within the water pipes, which allowed steam to get in.

It's actually a global phenomenon. Boys are performing worse in most of the Western world as well as much of the rest. When there are similar issues in the US, Japan, and Scandinavia you can rule out many cultural aspects as the cause.

Looking at women's CS graduation rates means nothing if you don't look at overall graduation rates. I have yet to see any proof that women are really being driven out from CS rather than being driven into some other field.
