This is a common sentiment but it is wrong. Making money is just one of the operational constraints that a company has to take into account. Companies exist to fulfil a purpose. That purpose is not just "make money". Steve Jobs fo

For a single server, SQLite, or boltdb[0] I've never had to scale horizontally. I develop in Go and you can get very far along with just vertical scaling (aka beefier hardware). Therefore I can't give concrete examples of a distri

Zero dependency is better. Your database does not need to be a separate process. It can just be a library embedded in your application. If your application is distributed across several physical servers, then your database can be as well.

I think this is not a useful or productive mindset. I mean the idea of "I spend hundreds of hours learning $TECH in order to get a job in it". If you learn it because it is interesting to you and you enjoy the process of learning

The GP comment was highlighting that 作戦 includes the character for "war". Now, in the case of "crusades", the word has very negative connotation in Arab/Muslims countries. So, when George Bush said the war on terror

Just like "Crusade" in modern usage has little (if at all) to do with physically fighting a religious war.

You're actually very wrong on this point at a very basic level. You can't be really good at something by focusing only on it. To be good at software design, you need to be good at understanding computers and people. You need to un

This is depressing actually. Instead of working to simplify the desktop, people are pouring energy into solutions that further complexity everything. I don't understand the comments on this thread that express excitement and enthusiasm

The whole point of using C++ in 2018 is to have control over memory layout and CPU instructions emitted. If you think lambdas with GC are a good idea then you would not use C++. You would maybe use Go. > Compile times matter in extreme c

Books are published once, not through iterations. The equivalent in book writing would be that you are not allowed to write more than one page at a time, and someone must approve it before you start working on the next page.
