I learned C first but then I rode the functional bandwagon (and dynamic languages) and spent many many years in Python and Javascript. I thought map/filter was much better than imperative for a long time. I rediscovered imperative prog

It's simply impossible to have reliable "best practices" in programming. It's still a young field and most of the ideas floating around are just fads . Yesterday's best practice will quickly become an anti-pattern

Whenever I read "modern" javascript code, I'm irritated by the prolifiration of map/filter/reduce. It makes code harder to read and modify. A straight for loop is infinitely better in every way.

Actually they do. Without naming names, let's assume two populations, A and B. A-Females are willing to marry B-Males, but B-Females are not willing to marry A-Males. This creates lots of abundance for B-Males and lots of scarcity for

I started using dynamic languages since around 2008 (Python and Javascript). Before that I was more into C/C++. Granted, I've only written C in University settings where I'm writing small programs. I had no idea how to write

I don't think you understand the unix philosophy. If a tool does everything for you from start to finish, it's not following the unix philosophy. Unix command line tools are basically meant to be like small library functions in an
