The internet is a network. You are on the edge of the network. There's a gateway between you and the network. This is impossible to eliminate. It's a feature of the network. The only mitigation you can do is own your data and pr

Docker will not solve the problem. It's just another layer in the pile of garbage. It's just another confusing system that the user must learn and become an expert in to even get started. Totally the wrong solution. You want somet

The problem is configuration itself. Things should not need configuration. Configuration is for builders, not users. When you buy a car, do you "configure" the gearbox? The engine? Imagine yourself buying a car, and the car dealer

I don't know anything about systemd, nor do I want to. I absolutely have problems with configuration via text files. A lot of things on linux desktops that a typical user wants to do require editing text files to work. For example, try

It's what Peter Thiel calls indefinite optimism. They have no idea what's going on but they believe there's money to be made in tech. They follow tech news to try and figure out what type of tech companies make for good inves

Here's why this matters: some systems require you to edit text files in order to work at all. But at the same time, they are extremely sensitive to the content of the text file. Editing text file to make advanced configuration may

I'd go a step further: programs aimed to make self-hosting easy should not even need a package manager. They should be self contained (statically linked) binaries. Luckily we have Go which makes this very easy to achieve, and to make t

Comments like yours are a great example of why Linux has a hard time being user friendly. You take something that's deeply technical but easy to understand for yourself, and somehow generalize it to everyone. "If it's easy fo

This used to be common sense in the few companies I worked at around 2012. People just pushed code. We occasionally held some review sessions to go over code and exchange comments / ideas about what might be wrong with this or that cod

I think there's another hidden element: the majority of people in tech love wrangling with complexity on computers. Why else would people spend hours trying to configure and customize linux distros? To them it's a puzzle game and

The problem with CC0 is it's very wordy and very legaleeze, which means I don't want to bother trying to understand it, and potential users won't either. A one-line sentence should be more than enough to clarify my intent.

The purpose of freely distributing code is not to be useful to corporations. It's to foster a spirit of sharing with the community. If I put something up for free, it's because I want other programmers to be able to freely use it.

I meant more broadly, the header level number should be derived from its nesting level without you specifying it explicitly. This gives you more freedom to re-arrange (refactor?) the text without having to mass-edit header levels.

I appreciate the sentiment behind this but I don't think static site generators are the solution. What a static website lacks is interaction with visitors. Interaction with other people is the whole point of going on the internet. Foru
