There are already alternative shells. I think there’s some stuff fairly deeply rooted into gnu that’s an ‘issue’ for rebuilding and turns an effort into a complete redesign, making the whole thing hard to achieve.

Why not? Public transport follows static routes, but there’s nothing to stop personalised routes based on whose on the public transport, especially while off peak.

Blocking the curl useragent can obviously be worked around, but is probably a net good. This isn’t a conspiracy, HN would be getting spammed by crawlers but they won’t care about legitimate users.
