Good ideas are hard ... sometimes simple and overcrowded markets yield the best results. Facebook is basically usenet with a better UI/UX ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usenet ). Amazon was a book store. What you

Pursue what you are passionate about, but be realistic about how you are going to work and handle the real issues that come with being an adult and having a family (if this is your goal). My daughter is pursuing a degree in Art at a good un

ARM isn't going to displace Intel, or more correctly, x86, any time soon. My rationale is simple, in that there are many different ARM vendors, with many different (yes) ABIs and toolchains, no real industry/market push behind an

Yeah, I heard the "loser" bit. Somewhat comforted by the end of my third year in industry, in that my compensation was 2.5x what new profs was making. The postdocs I looked at included a number for which the salary for 60+ hour

When I entered grad school it was. Then the Soviet Union died, and the market, already awash in a large number of Ph.D.s in physics suddenly transformed into something that I could not effectively compete in. To some degree, you are measur

Put more succinctly, whomever wins this, loses. Small business will wind up paying for Amazon's share of the taxes. We all lose when this happens.

I did a similar analysis with more relevant (for me) numbers for BA recruiters that wanted me to move. Their responses were ... well ... sad. I don't blame them. Or the companies. I was amused by the offered salaries, after I explain

What are the parameters of that $1M home? For example, I looked at comparables for my current home in a recent job hunt. My reasonable sized (1700 sq ft) house in a good area of Michigan (western Wayne county, bordering Washtenaw and Ann A

You assume they would. As soon as the UBI hits, the 300$ huts become $1300 huts. And we have the same pattern all over again. Enable them to mobile, independent of UBI. Enable them to get food, health care (real stuff, not the obamacare

I am going to assume I am more cynical than you on this. Rent seeking behavior is usually aimed hardest at those least likely to protest, or without resources to protest. Someone can rent seek another if the other person has no other effe

Exactly. Rent seeking behavior, to extract more from tenants would be expected. This would spread. Causing other prices to rise.

Its not awful over a short term. Over a longer term, it will price commodities out of reach. I've watched milk prices rise dramatically over the last 5 years or so. This is in part due to the costs of production rising, not necessar

The concern I have with this will be inflation. People now have money, sellers can now raise prices. Which eventually gets us right back to where we were. You can give them more money, but then you are accelerating the cycle.
