Well ... no. 5 is short. My BS took 4 years. My MS took 2 years. My PhD (computational physics) took 7 years. I was the fast one at my school. Some of my peers (high energy physics, nuclear, etc.) took 9+ years. Then again, I met my forme

I did similar measurements in a past life[1], when I was still working in physics. This is in part why it is so intriguing to me, in that higher temperature superconductivity is definitely something of a holy grail. [1] https://

I'd argue that the typecasting in that last paragraph may not be realistic. > But more importantly ... to business's eyes, Rust is too immature, Scala and F# inherit all the billion-dollar mistakes from their parent VMs, Julia

Hrm ... argumentation by reference to authority (various Ph.D. people) is a sure way to lose a scientific argument. But that isn't my only qualm. In the construction of the fields, there is a simple definition of the division function.

This is quite literally the definition of triage. You have finite resources. You have requests for resources which exceed your capabilities to service. You need to determine an order. In an ideal utopian world, no one would ever need thes

For my PhD program, I specifically looked for advisors doing the type of simulations I was interested in. There weren't many (1989-1990 time frame). I found one who on paper looked great: lots of good recent publications, assistant p

Dependency radii of packages in CentOS are horrible. Your minimal installs are hovering above 1GB. Debian are better at 400MB or so. Alpine is great, in that you can get this down to well under 100MB. This has been a long standing compla

Michigan is now (thankfully) a right to work state. This means that people can be hired without worrying about it being a union shop. The union used to have effectively a monopoly on labor at many sites here. This is no longer the case.
