My guess with what happened is that they were downloading to /var somewhere and messed up a variable name when they called unlink() to remove their temporary data, which when running as root would delete the symlink of /var to &#x

Disclaimer: this affected me tangentially which is why I've been trying to figure out what exactly happened and where it came from. The issue was not Chrome in and of itself, but Google Keystone, which is the update daemon for Chrome.

Add on a "use it or lose it" policy and I'm onboard. If the patent holder isn't building products with their IP or licensing it as the original author than they shouldn't be allowed to hold it. It would disable &quo

I like the idea of faster and smaller devices but dislike the idea of expensive production methods that are only realizable with heavy capital investment and large volumes of products. Like I can realize a PCB prototype in my apartment (or

iLok has been extremely effective at stopping cracks or at least slowing them down enough to where the software is obsolete by the time a crack appears. The pirates don't have access to this software in the first place. We can debate t

You use a lock/wait free data structure like a ring buffer as a FIFO to send the data to a blocking thread that buffers and writes to disk.

The false-sharing macro in the example expands to __attribute__((alligned(/* etc / )) or __declspec(align(/ etc*/). Is there a reason these are preferred over the alignas specifier introduced in C++ 11?

It's not really a comment on value-add, more on content consumption habits. All I know for sure is that exclusive content is the biggest factor in lowering churn and showing it up front in a catalog is the best way to get people to kno

I mean the assumption here is that people open up a service knowing what they want to watch beforehand and/or without knowing where to find it. Those parameters are rarer than you'd think.
