Maybe it's not as important that he's 'nice' but rather that he cares and acts upon it.

I scrolled down to #31 before closing the tab - '31. Linkbait. Write fun or helpful “top 10″ (or top 99) types of lists – they always work.'

This is great. I remember having to endure a few days without running water in my apartment thanks to burst pipes and wondering how I would cope - then I realised how lucky I was to be having it return eventually. I've had a few conversatio

My anecdotal experience recently backs this up. I had to give up using AVG (it was adding several minutes onto my netbook's startup time) so tried Avast. It was okay until I couldn't figure out how to stop it running a full system scan ever

I initially read your comment as 'I wonder if it would help (them) to patent placebos" and then reading it properly realised my mistake. I'm sure there have to be some in the pharma industry hoping to turn this into a moneyspinner somehow.

This is utter rubbish if it's meant to be taken seriously. I'm not even disagreeing with the assertion that scientists are largely dull. Good science needs a dispassionate and objective attitude, and it's often solitary. I guess those don't

Yeah, I was expecting to find myself disagreeing with you but I find it a little bleak too. I don't know if it makes me a ridiculous idealist but I do care about doing things to a certain level of quality.

I'm in no position to invest anything but my good self at the moment but I shall remember this when/if I'm ever in the position to move. I'm a little surprised by the lack of foresight by the officials there in your case. Was that in a part

Canada's held a lot of appeal to me since I see a lot of things in common with the UK (home country) only better. Can you tell me more about why it's so bad for finding employment or starting a business?

Maybe we could have a trial week where a bunch of representatives prune out anything that doesn't conform to a set of rules that enforce a strict interpretation of what hackers news should post. Then the following week we can discuss or vot

How would he go about rigorously analysing them over the lengthy time periods required? Maybe I'm missing something obvious but automated analysis is necessary and simply looking at the distribution of keywords over time wouldn't be enough.

It would have been great to see those early events in San Diego. I'm very envious! One thing we did have back in the early 90s here in Manchester was a great radio station called Sunset (it quickly became a commercial mainstream station, al

I'm not as pessimistic. I really hold to the belief that the proportion of unimaginative 'workmen' in a field is constant. Lowering the cost of hardware allows more people to enter the field.and increases the amount of mediocre stuff but al

Doesn't this depend on where your definition is taken from? I remember reading in something reputable (or it might have been a BBC Radio documentary) that at one time they were synonyms for the same thing, but that one was used in the USA a

Isn't it a bit more "all or nothing" when it comes to market share and revenues though? I mean you can't just say you've got 100th of the audience of Google and thereby generate 100th of their revenues because of the way advertisers work -

I don't like how this has been downvoted. It feels like people are disagreeing with the poster's point by giving him or her downvotes. That's not the point of the voting system, I'd say. rms - though I see what you're saying, in this case I
