> fully automated gay space communism I hope I have the opportunity to use this turn of phrase at some point in my life. Magnifique!

Honestly kinda wild you can’t imagine this person, because when I was in my teens it was me. You don’t care about security or don’t understand the implications, and why would you!? You’re having fun! Fun is the deal. If you focus on the fun

Hard to overstate how big a deal this guy was at the time, especially in warez/cracking. I can’t imagine anyone who’s 25 or younger wrapping their head around this. It’s from an entirely different age.

This is such a great articulation. It is completely insane how good it is. It blows my mind every day. My life prior to our child seems incredibly stupid by comparison.

I think many people use zen to mean “at peace”. A zen moment is one where everything feels ok. All his bills are paid. His wife is healthy. In this moment, he’s at peace.

Or, in a more positive framing, our society pays for the negative externalities of our more risk oriented members doing rad shit. I am happy to pay through taxes for things like rescue services or medical bills for people who do things like

Worth the click, pretty wild technology.

I also need more detail/info on this treatment.

I totally get this thinking, but I am oriented totally differently from you. I will forget my friend's birthdays, their kids names, their wife's names, things they've talked about recently, etc, etc. I have a terrible memory

When I see replies like this, I am made aware that some people see the world dramatically different from me. To me, this is about as close to just directly copying everything as you can get. To point out the seams is to lose the forest for

The high cost comes from a city that basically makes it impossible to build housing. The bureaucracy drives out developers, leaving only those who are willing to deal with nightmarish levels of legal hurdles. The legal headaches make the ho

lol, I've never had worse customer support than while in Europe. I had no idea how good we had it in the US until living in Europe. I'm not sure what my threshold is for reporting a company to a bureaucratic institution in hopes f

I second the exercise thing. I needed to get out of the house when Covid first hit, and ended up hopping on my bike and just exploring around. I gradually wanted to hit up more of the city, and in SF that meant hills. Both my anxiety and my

Damn, CleanShot might be my Skitch replacement, looks nice!

I love that they're taking a crack at this, but three things still keep me on Skitch: - Drag to drop image directly after creating it - Visually appealing arrows/annotations - No account necessary I still haven't seen paid or

Every time I read one of these types of articles I have an "Am I taking crazy pills" experience. I get that as an educational experience this is interesting, but the level of complexity required to generate static html is extraord

Another important one: > Under the order, residents will still be allowed to take a walk, exercise or take a pet out to use the bathroom as long as people remain at least six-feet away from others who are not a member of their own househ

The major step was deciding to do a ton of dating in a shorter period of time. I would go on 3-4 dates a week. It's exhausting to do this, so I could only manage this pace for a month or two before taking a few weeks off and trying aga

I have done this successfully with two things in my life: dating and interviewing. There's some overlap, but I sucked at both. The only way I realized I would ever get better in any reasonable amount of time was to do it over and over

This is incredibly rad, both from a design and a functionality pov. Nice work.

That seems impossible. Where do you live in SF? Do you ever take public transit?

I empathize with where you're coming from, but I honestly think this line of thinking has led us to where we are now. The city is legitimately scary for many (maybe most) of its inhabitants, especially after sunset. I know plenty of wo

I've been living in San Francisco for 7 years and it just feels lawless. I've been kicked while riding my bike, I've had people come up and start screaming obscenities at me, I've been followed for multiple blocks by som

Freedom of speech according to the law is different than private companies granting the same protections. Also, with a lot of these platforms, you're also getting freedom of distribution, which is not a right guaranteed by law.

Figuring out what you want to be when you grow up, what makes you happy, etc etc is a mind-bogglingly complex problem. Often, we just have to make decisions with the best information we have with whatever emotional motivations we have. A lo

The article points out that bees are only used as a proxy for all insects and that second-order effects like significant declines in insect-eating birds align with neonic usage. Your points about bees may be true, but I think they talk abou

The first one is a find and replace nightmare on any sufficiently large project and akin to inline styling. The second negates the point of utility classes.
