Most corporate employees at Amazon do get some stock, and you’re also free to exchange the money you earn for ownership of any public company.

I’ve heard multiple numbers for this layoff from unofficial sources. Does anyone think Amazon was trying to identify a leak by letting internal parties know about the layoffs with slightly different details?

My point is that, the reason people don’t let one bad car experience ruin all cars is because people understand that different manufacturers make cars with different levels of quality. So one bad car will ruin the perception of one manufact

If you bought a jeep and it was a lemon, you may never buy a jeep again. You just don’t view all cars as fungible. Do you think most people are capable of understanding why an expert could be wrong about gadolinium but right about vaccines?

Really? I think Silicon Valley _loves_ the H1B fee. Prior to the fee, everything was purely a lottery. There was no pay-to-win. Now there is. Silicon Valley has the most money to spend here, so they get the most talent.

Sure, if you choose to assume everything follows from your belief, then of course you’ll find yourself correct! Just a counterpoint, the federal government started guaranteeing student loans in the 60s. There was clearly a pre-offshoring pu

Of course, profit motivated offshoring is a cause of the current situation. But it feels a little revisionist to attribute that as the _only_ cause. Culturally, the country derided blue collar work for a long time. The fact that everyone sh

I think both engineering and sales take the customer for granted. Engineering often views their role as taking in specs and outputting product with little regard to whether or not the product is actually worth buying. Sales views customers

In all of the cases you mentioned, selling a home to pay for travel when unemployed despite needing work are all poor long term decisions.

It’s possible there are unknown circumstances, but this person sold their house and used to proceeds to travel while unemployed. They don’t seem like a great long term decision maker.

I think the outcome we're witnessing in the U.S. is simply an outcome of an insurance-backed industry. All the market forces conspire for prices to be higher. Insurance companies actually don't care how much healthcare costs becau

I’m sure plenty of Americans would love to work a factory job if it meant they could provide a comfortable life for their family. Unfortunately, due to decades of anti-labor practices, that isn’t possible anymore. But that doesn’t mean we s

No, I don’t think there is a switch. It will be a long and difficult process. But your argument seems to be that, just because it’s difficult, we should just give up. I don’t believe in that argument. Building things is always hard.
