Assuming these are suitable for H.264, then developing H.264 hardware decoders using sFFT could reduce the power consumption. Even though the problem of hardware FFT is "solved" there is still room for improvement.

I'd already done some commercial software products by the time I was going to college, and in my youthful arrogance decided CS had almost nothing to offer, and went with Electrical Engineering (Analog and Mix-Signal focus), and pick up a f

Another factor could be that earlier interviews weed out the forceful negotiators among the women, because that personality trait makes women less likable. On the other hand, a lack of aggressiveness makes men appear weak.

A "scientist" finds by cross-validation that his model is over fitting the data. Luckily it wasn't published by a reputable source of science journalism. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cross-validation_(statistics) Also who the heck is Wil

Amazon should add an embedded safari, and allow the user to set a home page. Then I could just home page the online store, and have in-app-esqe purchasing.

I think if you attempt to hire 1000 pretty good programmers, it is likely you'll end up with a least one exceptional programmer. If you were to divide up the 1000 pretty good programmers into 200 teams of 5 people each, and give them the sa

On the other hand the population of the bay area is quite comparable to that of Israel. Smaller countries tend to have more specialized and targeted economies. If Israel were to attempt to play in all the industries that the US does, they w

I think this is only true with larger teams. On tasks that are't too large, 2 or 3 great "product smart" developers will beat a team of 6 or 7 with divided responsibilities. It is also a function of how novel the product is. The ability of

The previous commenter wasn't talking about this transistor 3d feature, but about stacked transistors. Just like a city full or high-rise buildings can pack a lot more people in per square mile, a stacked transistor IC could pack a lot mor

He was just referring to packing more transistors in a given area. The theory is that the far transistors of SRAM cache are closer than they would be at a lower density, and that difference might make a performance difference. I'm not sure

I agree. If Apple sticks to a strict interpretation of this policy, Amazon Kindle and Netflix are gone from iOS. In both cases Apple is only one piece of a much bigger distribution strategy, and a piece they can't afford on these terms. Per

I agree. Using the truthiness of non-boolean values has always seemed questionable in any language (Javascript is possibly the worst offender). For many statically typed languages this is caught as a syntax error, which is nice for those

It wasn't until the early 90's that software was widely considered patentable. Even then it wasn't till the late 90's that software patenting really started to take off. And much of that was by companies who saw patenting more as defensiv

One problem with software patents is that the vast majority of innovation happens in the minds of individual programmers, and often goes into products without anyone else in the world being aware. They don't and couldn't be expected to know

Do they have a clean way to handle handle native code on Atom, and MIPS as well as ARM? I particularly think Atom has potential in the Android tablet market, but too many native ARM only apps would make it less cool.
