Sorry I just think this is actually one of the simpler Nobel prizes and I’m fairly certain they weren’t even in the picture when the discovery was made. I worked in a lab with “Nobel winning lineage” and the ego fights always come up so I g

Thanks for the source! And I'm not saying I'm 100% right but I do remember reading articles from the economist and other solid publications about them not having any restrictions. I won't be able to find the article but I wil

Sorry this might sound stupid but does that include software with UIs? I’m thinking of a browser where it can be gpu accelerated or not.

Good lighting is a luxury for sure but can definitely get complicated to control properly with just switches. The other thing is, once you’re in that ecosystem, you fiddle a lot at the beginning and then you don’t. My lights get blue and br

I just bought Nanoleaf bulbs and they just don’t get bright enough. Then I have issues where there’s always 2 or 3 bulbs out of 6 that don’t respond and they’re all next to HomePods and routers etc…I really hate that Philips went down this

You need a PR for this. Someone start a repo. And while we’re at it, can we think of something better than enshitification? It just doesn’t roll off the tongue very well at all.

I just opened a tax return document in pdf format and it looked fine but printed garbled text. That’s not what this is, right? The file wasn’t encrypted either.

Is prime editing possible for diseases that result from point mutations? I know tat there’s always the issue of getting the construct into the cells and then into the nucleus but can we confidently elicit base edits in humans? All I’ve seen

Do we know for a fact that it'll keep working after the change? Are there any homekit devices that require you to log in to a separate app? If so, then the change doesn't affect me very much.

I must have misread some literature so thanks for clearing that up. I'm now seeing that it only requires a homologous template which, hypothetically could even be provided by the therapeutic agent itself?

I'm thinking about genetic diseases occurring in non-dividing cells like cortical neurons as a possibility. It seems like as long as the technology relies on NHEJ or HDR this kind of editing won't be possible as a therapy.

I don’t know how FDE works so thanks for the correction. I’ve read stories about feds pulling out drives and asking for keys later. But to run dd wouldn’t you need root access? And couldn’t you use that to dump the FDE keys from memory?

If I’m understanding this correctly, this procedure is performing a single strand cut rather than double strand? Are there any base editing systems that can perform point edits without the cells repair mechanisms?
