Ah, this is annoying. Selling is only allowed to people in the US? What on earth for? I realize it's available free but I wanted to buy for the principle of the thing.

There is PowerShell (which I use) but if you thought cmd.exe was slow, its got nothing on PowerShell, which takes slow text rendering to a new level. On a Core i7 clocked at 3.5Ghz with SSD :) Getting home to work on a Linux terminal or Ter

I wonder how many of these we will see before people started using anonymous prepaid VISA credit cards to purchase non-logging VPN subscriptions from internet cafes, and then used these VPNs to do downloading. I imagine trying to track that

Yes, please appeal. I use one of the existing (paid) HN apps, it has less functionality than yours, and, bonus, yours includes source code, so if something annoys me I can fix it myself. I started writing my own, but now that seems kind of

Check out some of Gary Bernhardt's videos (also a play by play on Peepcode). I stole a whole lot of things from his VIM setup (red/green bar for test runs in VIM just rocks).

If you take the time to read the recently passed legislation in NZ, it's big media's wet dream. Presumption of guilt: check. Bypassing of due process: check (fucking kangaroo court tribunals). Three strikes and termination of Internet acces

JAXA's pie in the sky SSPS project avoids the problem of variability of supply. Emplaced at a Lagrange point, one could imagine a potential 24/7 source of energy. Also, one of the proposed ways to transmit the energy back to earth is via la

A bonus of limiting your caffeine intake is the quality of sleep you get. I get a solid 8 hours since quitting caffeine, and it's really good sleep, too. I'm almost 100% ready to go as soon as I wake up. And I get a lot less of the "you loo

I used Linux for six years as my primary OS, on OS X for a while now. On OS X, the biggest annoyance for me, coming from Linux, is the lack of a consistent packaging system. I don't like the MacPorts style of compiling everything on my own

Before internet came to our parts I would make long distance calls to BBS's with a 2400baud modem, spending hours downloading classics like WinZip :) My parents got a $900 phone bill once (a lot of money in South Africa). I mowed many law

Being online via Trumpet Winsock was how I downloaded my first Linux distribution. Knowing Linux at the right time (1998) was how I got my first job. Donated.

If you've been to the South, the comparison is stark, and it's hard to believe the two were one country a few decades ago. That said, if re-unification, happens I imagine the progress in the North will be rapid, and the country as a whole w

(Sorry, I missed this reply). For me, it was the best decision, as I enjoy programming much more than sysadmin work. I get my kicks out of creating new things. Valuable experience though.

Our company charges $250k. Per CPU. Yes, I didn't believe it either. And this is just one of the many line items. According to VC, some of our bigger customers didn't take us seriously until we charged the money they were used to paying.
