Yeah…I think Gen AI has a lot of use, but this new biz model is just a new twist on harvesting the commons until it collapses. They’ll make a quick buck, make it impossible for human creators to make any money, and we’ll be left with an our

I wish people would quit with the “(existing product name) for (some remotely adjacent thing)” format. I get it helps to have a bridge from a known thing to the new thing, but the flip side is over use if any framing device makes people ins

I think what bothers me is you can make some pretty cool - and artistically novel - things with gen AI. But this type of “throw a bunch of random keywords related to the blog/video content and go brrrrr on MidJounrey” is just trash.

Can it though? What apps are people actually using? Apple is very much not having an iPhone moment with Vision Pro: there is no explosion of creativity or a new market rush. And there may never be one. Apple treated devs like trash for yea

Getting really sick of these AI gen graphics on blog posts and YouTube vids to the point it’s an automatic back click when I see one. I hope it ends.

The fact that pickle even exists is fundamentally wrong to start with. They should not be permitted as a distribution format, period.

Let’s not forget this technology all comes from IDF spying on Palestinians who basically have no legal rights. Injustice breeds further injustice.

I was looking at their workstation the other day and they have this totally absurd “AI” branding that makes no sense whatsoever. They are selling machines with GPUs with 4GB VRAM as “AI-Ready”. If they don’t know system requirements for run

The law is interpreted anew each day. Nothing is outside the law. Perhaps if all rules were written in stone, and clear of ambiguity, we would not need judges or the legal process. But that’s not how any of this works.

This is an actively litigated and unsettled area of law. You, and nobody else, can say any of this with confidence until these lawsuits get to a judge, and even then it’s per jurisdiction rulings. The US, EU, and Japan may end up with diffe

I think a lot of the license motivation is to have real time information for RAG. I doubt that is being used for foundation training, it’s just not enough volume.

Interesting, I think that’s a totally valid response to this trend of capturing “value” of open source via Cloud Services (for a while now) and Code Gen (more recent). I think SV is just dead set on killing the golden goose of open source a

I did not give consent to train on my software and the license does not allow commercial use of it. They have taken my code and now are dictating how I can use their derived work. Personally I think these tools are useful, but if the da

Look up the concept of mens rea - the intent matters. If you hire somebody because you want a look/voice-alike that is legally distinct from hiring somebody who happens to have a certain voice. https://en.wikipedia.org/
