I was 13 when I purchased mine on lawnmower money. Getting a tape drive to store the hours of peaking/poking the games from the magazines was amazing. Just found my original 300 baud modem and hardware/software moving homes. War

All the work stuff is running RHEL, so Centos is closer when it comes to all the software I'd run. I'm tempted to say Centos 8 Streams is Fedora... but I had a couple packages where it was tricky to get that to work, so currently

Ah man, these things happen. One of our developers - very new to elastic - was asked to modify some indexes. Folks were a bit too busy to help or heading out on holiday. One stack overflow answer later... delete and recreate it... and sh

I picked up one of the XPS 17" laptops. The screen is just gorgeous. If you go Centos on it, be prepared to do battle with the killer nic. (argh)

I was gifted an HP 28S that was given as a bit of swag when our lab picked up an HP mass spectrometer. The odd battery size was a challenge back in those days. That silly thing absolutely saved me on a physical chemistry exam where I coul

We have something similar. They use these for some of the leadership 'culture' sessions - but the emphasis is more around the differences in people and how one style of communication is more effective with one group and backfire

I've just started messing with WSL2 on one of my old threadrippers. Ubuntu works. What I've not found yet is a source for Centos. I've found a couple open source projects, and a few beer money entries on the Microsoft stor

Price cuts? I've not found a single 3080 in store or online yet. There was a 200 person queue for the 12 available at microcenter launch day.

Way to many folks end up with surprise bills. I'd like the option to say - over x dollars cost, shut the damn thing off to the public. Back in the /. days, got a minor project hit by the mass internets and hit with bandwidth cha

We did our bathrooms, and learning the plumbing aspect was probably the most interesting still addition for me. My father in-law taught me how to do copper pipe soldering, and stupervised the upstairs plumbing. Feeling emboldened, I ordere

Just purchased a 30 year old house... with older plumbing. Ugly color, but compared to the newer ones we put into our former house - they work incredibly well when sinking the Bismarck.

I strongly suspected that is what they did too. Got to wonder if they used the EXIF data to find him - linking photos of the pot and other social media/etc public shots, then used the fingerprints as parallel construction.

They can if they need to... Both the U2 and the SR71 had a crazy short development time - months, not years. The history of both those aircraft from a build/design perspective is an amazing read. They knew the U2 would be obsolete f

My first RHEL laptop was a T40 thinkpad with a 31-bit (not a typo) z-series emulator complete with dongle. I think they spent 20k on the crazy thing. Such a weird market to sell into.

It is not super dangerous stuff. You can (and should not) juggle it bare handed briefly without ill effect. One thing to consider is dry ice is frozen CO2. Camping, it was a clever way to pack in our steaks without having a watery mess.
