I had one of the lovely T61s models that did 1600x1200. That machine had a long, long lifespan for a 3+g memory it could support. Miss the 4:3

The 3840x2400 16:10 on the new XPS 17" is very nice. It was a substantial increase from the older 15" i9 mac I use for work. Well worth the extra $400 for it over the 1900x1200 version for me.

Can confirm Home Depot/Husky did not have a happy ending on one screw. Which Harbor Freight set you pick up? (was getting ready to mix the epoxy for the one screw/bit)

I just updated my personal laptop with the dell xps 17 largely because it has a glorious 16:10 screen. My only complaints with the machine is the tiny torx screws on back are very fragile - got an M.2 drive waiting to go in it so I can do

I can't say I've ever seen a time card system that was not hot trash. The more full of enterprise they get, the worst they are.

The (bit of) article mentioned 2T, but the thing that was interesting was the 8 channel memory. My current TR4 boards are doing quad, so 2 banks of 4 slots. Sounds like a single set of 8... so wonder if this is a potential BIOS update on

Learn a handful of knots. You don't need to know the entire boy scout manual, but solid understanding of 4-5 knots - be it a trucker's hitch (adjustable), improved clinch (fishing/permanent), half hitch, etc - will be the ri

You are lucky. I end up doing 2-3 screens a week. Ask any of the typical questions were you to google for interviews for Java/Spring/etc.. you get the same canned answers. Push any practical bits, and there are a lot of people

I'm looking at what a workstation class machine likely should be, I guess. All things being equal, I'd love there to be no (realistic) upper limit on memory. ECC should have been supported by threadripper too, IMHO. I've o

I tend to do much of the phone/person screening at our shop. I'm surprised how many folks try to bluff their way in. You ask a big-O on maps, lists, and the different implementations they will rattle off the (correct) stackoverf

They threw a silly amount of RAM in it, so ended up using one of the AMD server CPUs/mainboards rather than a threadripper, since the threadripper could only leverage 256G of RAM. $1200 a stick... woof. I doubt the workload they put

I've got a 17" in process -- looks like a 5 week delay for it. Picked up a M2 drive that I'll be adding to turn it into my Linux laptop. Pretty excited to have a good 16:10 screen on something this size, will all sorts of e

It gets really easy to miss something like that. I've not missed the landing gear - but something goes a bit sideways and you are out of practice - things get skipped. I've, for example, left the carb heat on when I had to go aro

Keep in mind, this is the only part of that elephant I've interacted with. The key things for us were it was transnational and had cross data center replication. You could update a node in data center a, and have it replicate down to

Aviation hardware is absurdly expensive. Not only do you get to pay an A&P to install it but the gadgets are silly expensive. Think we were quoted almost $1800 to add a USB charging port to a C180.

The way a pilot's rating works is you get your private pilot license which is the same as a driver's license for most 'general aviation' planes. In those, you are required to demonstrate stall and engine out recovery as

Not a huge change - a smile rather than a tut when I hear the distinctive sound. The BWCA is a protected area where they really try to keep the water clean. Folks have cabins near the area (heck, some day I'd like a cabin up there) a

The sacks were pretty easy to order. You would have a dump truck come out and leave a pile of sand on the driveway. From there, you basically shovel/fill sacks like mad and either place them on your wall or put them someplace heated.
