It's not a perfect system at all but the Cesar Chavez movement and subsequent actions have greatly strengthened these workers' protections. These workers take these jobs willingly. This is not slavery, and your attempt to derail

Seriously? Cops really can't do anything unless all the evidence is gathered by citizens and then handed to them?

Given that 99% of the crimes are committed by repeat offenders, a simple dusting for fingerprints (costs pennies) could likely identify the culprit. But they don't bother. And they act like we've seen too many movies/tv show

Agree. I don't think there is any signal from the "academic side" of this discussion. All of the detailed relevant information is very proprietary. I know multiple large players in the industry that share huge amounts of da

I'm generally very skeptical of brand/store loyalty type arguments, but lately I've found that in the US, Macy's furniture is still good value for good quality. I've had to completely furnish a few rooms over the l

Yes blame Airbnb (and copycats). There is not enough supply. So it's not good to reduce supply for housing by converting homes to short-term rentals. Also, it destroys community.

the words "some" and "somewhat" are doing an impractical degree of heavy lifting. Pre-activation material is just not very radioactive and is thus not a terrorist risk. Post-activation material is basically impossible f

Your naive solution just creates an even more gigantic stagnant stinky mess of a Salton "sea". The entire point is to reengineer the salton sea as a beautiful ecosystem and lake by diluting all the salt with 5MAF of RO desalinate

There's also a weird consolidation going on in what are traditionally mom-and-pop style "trade" industries. E.g., a significant portion of the individual contractor Co. vans you see driving around could be owned (or at least

The link in the YC headline is to a press release. However, the press release links to the actual paper, which provides a wealth of tehcnical detail. This is a rechargeable zinc air battery. Not a primary battery. Although, this is earl

Thanks for any response! I talked to my citi private bank rep. He was quoting ~8% rates on asset backed loans. Seemed a bad deal to me. I find that citi is a bit negotiable, so if you are getting quoted significantly better rates let me

Sparkling water dehydrates the heck out of me. Seltzers and mineral waters etc. are worse in that regard than even something like Coca Cola, I think because they tend to be more carbonated.
