This is terrific. Would be a great resource for journalists to identify and understand some of the key points that can then be shared in a more public-friendly format. I wish all stories had this kind of accessible data “behind the news” th

I've flown out of 5 of them - SF, Oakland, San Jose, Palo Alto, San Carlos. You can't land a 747 on all of them but they're definitely airstrips. There might even be more than mapped.

I've ridden for years with the Dutch mindset - I kept a '60s steel roadbike rolling with a bent frame after a car hit it while locked on the sidewalk (ugh). Frankenbikes can be great, and the performance limitations give them some

I don't have children, but as a kid I had a strict cap on “screen time”. In the IAP money-for-time bargain, this makes screen time even more rare and valuable a resource than it is for the rest of us. I know parents who see this as a r

This is a very fair point. We've followed a similar approach to what you're considering, with styles living in a couple places: - Scss library of variables, mixins, and functions that can be imported in whole or piece-by-piece int

I agree with you that ratings should mean something. However, Uber requires an absolute minimum score of 3.8 for drivers to stay on the platform, and a 4.6 minimum for any area that has reasonable driver supply (eg: everywhere). This means

This is cool to see. I even more enjoyed the oral history of Deus Ex development that it links to from the intro. A really fun, nostalgic, and pretty relateable read. And somewhat in contradiction to this post, has the quote: > From what

Near the end of the first video they overlay an image of Manhattan for scale. Penguins would be invisible - some of those chunks are as wide as the borough! Boggling.

> And in fact, studies have demonstrated that fewer girls are interested in programming because of society. I agree! But why? And when? And is it just girls? The filter I'm talking about extends far beyond and is applied far earlier

Absolutely. It's not a hard argument to make that women (and many other underrepresented people) are subjected to a stricter filter in the tech world, playing with a deck socially and structurally stacked against them. It's no sur

I just last weekend revived a Jekyll site that had sat dormant for 3+ years and experienced exactly what you're describing. Not a fun afternoon. I do feel fortunate it was only _an_ afternoon, though.
