The budget carriers in Europe (RyanAir, EasyJet, etc) all have fees for carry on bags that are almost as high as checked bags and they only even offer those fees to people who have purchased the “up front” premium seats. They board and debo

Every business building on LLMs should also have a contingency plan for if they needed to go to an all open-weights model strategy. OpenAI / Anthropic / Google have nothing stopping them from 100x-ing the price or limiting access

Wow I really didn’t think this would happen any time soon, they seem to have more to lose than to gain. If you’re a company building AI into your product right now I think you would be irresponsible to not investigate how much you can do on

I don’t like this because it inspires my relatives to keep sending me links to these stories and asking why I’m not going to work at Meta and getting my billions. Mark, please do this stuff quietly so I can continue in my quiet mediocrity.

I ride my ebike to work every day. I love it, it's a lot more convenient than my old manual bike was (more durable, less sweating in hilly SF). I really try hard to be conscientious and not do anything on it that a very strong normal c

Thank you! Feel free to email me directly if you want any help getting set up. API key detection is something I had not considered but seems pretty feasible!

I created CodeApprove ( https://codeapprove.com ) because of my own frustrations with GitHub's code review UI and my experience with far superior tooling inside Google. In the last ~5 years there has been a huge increase in t

It's an interesting story but a weird analogy and moral. What would have been better if the other 3,999 carriage companies had all tried to make automobiles? Probably about 3,990 shitty cars and a few more mild successes. I'm not

And on an unwilling workforce. Everyone I know is being made to drop what they were working on a year ago and stuff AI into everything. Some are excited about it. Some are actually making something cool with AI. Very few are both.

So much negativity in this thread. I thought we’d be able to celebrate this one. Figma provided an alternative to the evil Adobe empire that was actually better. It’s powered by some amazing tech built originally by one of the founders. It’

Actually, at this point GitHub’s total failure to make a decent code review UI has inspired a lot of innovation! I think graphite.dev is the most well-known, but I’m also a fan of others reviewable.io and codepeer.com … I know this space we

I mix and match but I’ll take a Waymo if it’s <= $5 more for these reasons: 1. Literally zero variance. Every car is the same. Every driver is the same style. If it says it’ll be there in 7 minutes it will be 7, not 5 and not 10. 2. A ja

Comments so far are not discussing what makes this light rail “very” light, so here’s an excerpt. The project claims to cost half of “normal” light rail. > The vehicle is battery-powered, eliminating the need for overhead wires. It featu

Ok so OpenAI owns Windsurf now, so I would expect them to cut Cursor off from the really good stuff at some point. Anthropic has Claude Code, they could do the same. Google is a little farther behind but they do have an AI Studio thing that

I’m an AI skeptic. I’m probably wrong. This article makes me feel kinda wrong. But I desperately want to be right. Why? Because if I’m not right then I am convinced that AI is going to be a force for evil. It will power scams on an unimagin

I think it’s actually going to save those people. They can vibe code themselves just enough output to survive where before they did next to nothing. In relative terms, they’ll get a much much higher productivity boost from AI than the alrea

So absurd. As if your boss is going to let you go play tennis during the day because Jules is doing your work. If all of these tools really do make people 20-100% more productive like they say (I doubt it) the value is going to accrue to ow

The MAGA people attacking Hollywood is such a big mistake. Yes I know the average celebrity doesn’t share their views, but that doesn’t change the fact that Hollywood projects American culture around the world in a way that the government c

Came to write this same comment. The first 10 employees of a company are so critical to success and they tend to be drastically underpaid. A founding engineer (often employee 3 or 4) would be lucky to get 1.5% at most places while the CTO h

I would love if we could just make unavoidable advertising illegal. What I mean by unavoidable are things like billboards, bus stop ads, ads on the plane preceding the safety demonstration, ads in a train station, etc. I’m very fine with ad

I’m disappointed in the news media fails to mention the cascading effects of dental health. Yes, the primary and direct benefit of fluoride is to have a healthier mouth. But having a healthy mouth is far from the end goal, imo. If your mout

Many other places fluoridate salt. There’s many ways to get flourish (toothpaste being the best if you can get people to use it correctly) but the evidence that mass fluoridation of some kind is good for dental health is enormous.

I’ve only been in tech for 10 years but I’ve worked at companies of various sizes (FAANG, a 50-person startup, and now a mid-sized “unicorn”) and I’ve never had to work crazy hours. Maybe leading up to a launch I’d work past dinner occasion
