I'm not sure either party can govern effectively when they are in a political bubble. It seems that both ideas have good sides and the best governments are the (rare) ones where multiple parties have power and compromise occurs. Howeve

But do people regularly go between SF and CA? Are those people not well served by the cheap and frequent flights? It seems like the train should aim to replace a route served (poorly) by daily vehicular traffic.

I sadly agree with this. I think SF is broken beyond repair. I identify as a liberal democrat, it makes me sad that a city that has been under the control of my preferred political ideology for decades is so completely dysfunctional. It ma

This is just a link to a snarky tweet ... surely there has to be a better resource on the benefits of dark mode that we could post on HN for discussion?

These big companies (including Google where I work) have so little idea of where they're going that they go way too general with interviews. If you want a good iOS engineer then ask them all questions about the platform and have platf

Anything would be an improvement. I was looking into getting my first car recently. Narrowed it down to a few Honda models and walked into the SF Honda Dealership. Never seen anywhere so incompetent in my life. When I asked about car feat

The Last Samurai by Helen DeWitt. I read a lot of fiction (30+ novels a year) and this book really blew me away. Oh and by the way, it's not about Samurai or Japan or anything like that. If you're interested in thinking about the

Finally stopped complaining about JavaScript and jumped in. I now "get it". I'm actually really enjoying TypeScript as a language and I think Node.js is a very good ecosystem for working quickly. Feels good to no longer be

Took that shuttle for 2 years. It's nice but ... it's still a bus. There's no nice way to be on a bus for 3hr a day. I'd much prefer the subway, which is much faster.

Yeah SF has only one In-N-Out and it's more expensive and crowded than any other location I've seen. SF strongly limits fast food (which I find annoying). My suburb home town had more McDonald's locations than SF does.

SF really has no low end on anything. There's no $1 pizza slice when you really need a cheap meal and there's nowhere cheap to live without a punishing commute. The high end of NY is also much higher than SF. NY is where the fir

I spent two hours one time transferring all my domains (~10) to Google Domains. What a relief to be done with that company. There is not one honest step in the GoDaddy flow, you really have to keep your hand on your wallet. Disclaimer: I

Look at how many comments on this, or any other Flutter thread, mention hot reload. What I take from that is this: if your toolchain makes rapid iteration easy people will figure out how to work around almost anything else. Language/fr

So Tether seems to have been hanging out at about 0.97 lately ... isn't that a massive problem? If anyone really believe they were worth 1.00 USD we'd be vacuuming up those 3 pennies.
