I wonder who's reviewing this show? Techies like ourselves, or HBO's mainstream audience?

Very interesting development. Personally I don't see AR being anywhere close to VR in terms of usefulness, polish, and mass market appeal. VR obviously is going to be a major player in the gaming/entertainment industries, while an

As mentioned earlier on HN, deals like these don't just happen overnight. They literally are the result of months (sometimes years) of planning, analysis, and strategy. To think that MS is just going to drop $100 mil on AR technology b

Very good, very responsible move on their part. Hopefully, the other tech giants will follow their lead and update their own policies.

This would be an incredibly interesting development. I personally love c# and would be thrilled if it became a mainstream language outside the enterprise software crowd.

I'm really hoping MS becomes a company that offers consistent and great experiences no matter who's walled garden you're in.

Android user here - anyone else having a difficult time using this app? So much of it feels like a hackathon hack. It's shoddy, unresponsive, and overcomplicated. Take pinging for example, when I added a new friend (and she accepted) I

I thought the Hexagon 16384 game was pretty innovative, as well as some other 2048 forks, but this is just getting out of hand.

I think you misunderstand - making C# a first class programming language for ALL platforms helps Windows Phone way more than making it some half-ass solution.

Right, my concern is that they'll shut down the tools for non-MS platforms.

This would be great news, but I'm worried they'd stop developing the tools for other (non-MS) platforms. If anything, they need to do the opposite and make building iOS apps in C# a better experience than building them in Objectiv

Tagging is simply not how OneNote does things. If you're looking for that, use something else. Where OneNote excels is in giving you a tool to organize and manage your structured content. Personally, I prefer that paradigm since it giv

The future is in the cloud though, and OneNote has always (for the ~3 years I've been using it) worked this way. Everything is synced with the cloud.

If this is a preview of the new Office for Mac, I'm totally excited. Office 2011 for Mac really didn't implement the Ribbon well, and this looks like it's an amazing experience.

That's actually really interesting - what makes you excited about Win Phone? Is it just that the other platforms are getting stale/boring and WP is the "final frontier"?

What I meant was that, from my experience, updating/upgrading an open source tech stack usually causes the application it's running to break. I end up spending a day or two fixing things, where with a MS stack that rarely happens.

The thing is I'm sure there's a very good reason his company mandates a Windows stack for all the development he's doing - the MS dev stack (for the most part) will not break when you update your system, install a new patch,

Can you imagine if Microsoft did something like this? Leaving 20% of all Windows users unsupported! For me, it's just another example of the kinds of things Apple can get away with and no one bats an eye. 20% of all Mac users must upgr

Well of course the Surface Pro isn't a laptop. Just like the iPad isn't a laptop. The form factor of both devices just doesn't make it a competitor to a laptop. However, the Surface Pro is the only tablet that can do everythi

I'd like to point out that Microsoft has sold more copies of Win8 than Mac has sold of OS X since it has been released. However, I do like the idea of Microsoft as being our last hope of fighting the Apple monoculture.
