Parent from 2 up here. For the record I agree with both of the comments under me. All good points. I guess it’s not much help to call Trump a neoliberal. I’ll take that back.

Neoliberals want to use the state as an enforcement vehicle for private interests, so neoliberalism leads to more corruption of the state while libertarianism seeks to abandon it. Also, neoliberalism is much more crafty with propaganda, by

“Neoliberalism” is not a partisan term. I guess that is the most common context lately, but many contemporary republicans fit this description and the more nuanced ones. Decoding neoliberalism in the wild often requires a cultural critique

Not that you don’t have a point of sorts, but such a simplistic consideration of taxation seems dangerous to me. There are many theoretical possibilities left unconsidered including some obvious ones, such as fewer EU users of the American

You are mischaracterizing the proposal. Let’s be clear: the EU has no intentions of enforcing taxation outside of their jurisdiction and of course they have every right to enforce taxes within it. It’s pretty normal stuff.

Interesting to see individuals show pride in the “neoliberal” label, which is usually a stand-in for “complacent”.

Wonderful article! I did not expect to read this on HN today at all . I expect anyone with the undying love for Hopper’s work that I have to immediately imagine the harsh realities that produced these illustrations but alas I am mistaken.

I hesitate to expect it will have that exact effect, mainly because it will first be implemented in advertising. Unless it has to be said or humans learn the AI will be nicer to them for saying it, I would mostly expect this to be populariz

I have been stashing in Evernote for about a decade but have come to really love using Markdown for learning notes so I am looking elsewhere. For now, I have started using a git repo for learning notes.

I was under the impression the market would take care of everything. No? Maybe private interests don’t have enough influence on politics.

I think this was some lazy paraphrasing on my part. I’m pretty sure the latter is what they meant. Personally, to me, it sounds like ones of those business idea myths that may have some bit of truth but it’s mostly a viral spin.

I wish this view didn’t have a reputation of being conspiracy, because if the perch of criticality can be achieved, this process is very accessible and observable. Media theory can be very nuanced but the general ideas are daily routine

I think the problem is the arcane interface and documentations. The verbiage in the documentation is unnecessarily difficult if not a computer science major. I agree The Git Book is by far the best way I have found to learn it but the comma
