It’s funny you mention libpq, because my first thought upon reading the article was “I wonder if a pure Ruby implementation of the postgres wire protocol could possibly lead to performance improvements?

I'm far from expert on anything to do with the industry you're targeting or the engineering challenges you might be facing, but the idea sounds so reasonable I'm surprised it's not already a thing. I'm curious thoug

Completely off-topic, but if the author happens to be here: What is the system you are using to justify text? The "hanging" parenthesis on "(Understand that what I'm about to describe, ..." caught my eye, and it app

I've mentioned it here on HN before, but I've been using https://jhuddle.github.io/ponys/ for this and I still think it's pretty great.

That varies greatly depending on where you are in the world. In most of southern europe "a coffee" is an espresso, and outside of urban and/or tourist centers the normal price is less than 1€. The study was done in Verona, wh

Not specific to colorization, but didn’t something like this happen with the Star Wars trilogy? Lucas made a re-release with a few edits (that were not universally liked) and it’s now impossible to purchase a new copy of the original versio

Sure, I’m not trying to make the argument of the OP, just clarify it because I do think it warrants consideration. Regarding the role of shame in the rise of fascism (and the NSDAP). I agree it played a role, but I would characterize that a

One suggestion: allow the `minutes` input to wrap and increment the hour instead of setting max="59". This allows somebody to hold the up/down arrow and get a sense of how hour changes are represented.

This is extremely similar to https://jhuddle.github.io/ponys/ which I've been using quite happily. The `data-mark="foo"` convention is interesting, similar in spirit to ng:bind or knockout attributes.

Only ~6 years instead of 10, but I’m also not really sure what the problem is with autoloading lib. The only concrete problem I’m aware of is the presence of lib/tasks creating a Tasks constant. However I’d argue that lib/tasks (l

What's especially nice about this, is that it can be explained as a more or less syntactic transformation. You don't even need a special keyword, just a rule that method bodies beginning with `in PATTERN` are wrapped in an implici
