Can't recommend Dokku enough. I've been using it for years on a $20 DigitalOcean box. I have a lot of random web projects/tools, most of which I'm the only user, and it's great to have a super simple way to get them

I assume they're referring to Onyx and Dasung[1]. Not sure if it's actually 20fps (videos I've found look to be more in the low teens by my eye), and I believe they're making a lot of trade-offs around ghosting and stuff

I think when people are saying "the whole screen is ads", they mean the _visible_ screen. The person took a screenshot of the first visible screen and it's all ads. You can even see in the tweet that the tippy top of the next

Yep, this was the intent. It's a relatively common pattern. We kept it that way for a few releases so people could see it, and we removed the button in the latest release.

Hi there, Signal-Android developer here. I updated the issue to reflect this, but this bug has been fixed. I was tracking it on a separate issue, and had forgotten to close this one. We do, in fact, take issues like this very seriously. Thi

Former Snap employee here (albeit 3 years ago). They care a lot about their camera, particularly speed. They do, in fact, use the "proper" camera APIs on the devices where it's fast enough, and they'll hide the latency b

Hi there! Signal-Android developer here. Are you following the steps listed in our repo[1]? The steps use the very same docker image we use to build our releases. [1] https://github.com/signalapp/Signal-Android/tre

Hi there, Signal Android developer here. I'm sorry if you've had any sort of negative interaction with Signal in the past. I would personally never dismiss anyone's feedback on the grounds that this is a free app (the linked

Hi, there, Signal Android developer here. This is correct. Our process is that we work in a pre-release branch, and then merge that to master when we make a release. So GitHub doesn't usually recognize it as a merge, but we always keep

FWIW this was updated before release to also scale down the image before blurring it. We cut the size in half, or cap it to 300x300, whichever is smaller. This was to ensure that the effectiveness of the blur isn't reduced on higher-re

Signal dev here. Just wanted to make it clear that the GCM/FCM we send are completely empty. It just wakes up the app so we can fetch the encrypted messages, at which point we decrypt them and show them to the user.

Interesting, so our current method is to do just what you said -- start a foreground service and acquire a wakelock. But we only do it if our network request takes longer than n seconds (to avoid always showing foreground notifications). We

Even if the SDK's are open source, a lot of the problems we experience with FCM at Signal seem to be more of an issue with devices trying to optimize battery. Do you have any advice on how to avoid the system heavily delaying notificat

Hey! Signal dev here. We've actually seen delayed notification both before and after the switch to FCM. My guess is that newer Android versions are just becoming more and more aggressive with their battery optimizations. We send high-p
