What justifies giving the searchers an advantage that the victims don't have?

What have these straw men got to do with anything other than that you don't like the idea of Google having any responsibility for the negative consequences of their service?

So you were wrong about the gun analogy and are ignoring the point that the operators are responsible for what Google does.

You don't seem to understand that Google is a company run by people who are part of a society. Not some kind of naturally occurring algorithm.

True. I was mostly responding to the tone of the original comment. By all means encourage powerful sites to deprecate support for poor implementations as a way of encouraging progress.

No - you don't blame the gun. You blame the operator. That is exactly what is happening in this case.

Defamation is a well established cause for legally compelling people to change the way they represent others.

I am opposed to the idea that because something is a machine process, the people who operate that machine should not be held responsible for any harm it does.

I know exactly how a search engine works, so your explanation is irrelevant. I also know that Google is a system operated by humans who are responsible for its effects. If you operate a machine and it harms people, you are responsible. T

Google is just a search algorithm in the same way that a gun is just a convenient way to move pieces of lead around.

Do you seriously believe that Google is somehow unbiased?

Why would you ask that?

▲

Seems like a great precedent. Google spiders the web and creates profiles about people, and they should be held responsible for the consequences.

I know of British Airways executives who flew from London to New York on Concorde only to attend meetings from which they returned again the same day without having left the airport.

I didn't acknowledge that. Renting the data doesn't mean third parties see it - since there would be no way for it to be 'returned'. Instead a program is executed on their behalf.

This is actually a problem with capitalism in general. Integrity costs money. It's the tragedy of the commons writ large.

No media behaves anything like what you are calling for. Yes, this would be ideal, but it is so meaningless to call for it in the context of a single article that it is effectively a straw man. What we currently live with is media either p

The point is that Apple's poor behavior barely registers on the scale by comparison to Samsung's, so the truth is not balanced. That is why the article doesn't bother to mention these things. You would like to make the clai
