Java is a deeply flawed object oriented language. You agree with the author because, correctly, you are experiencing that Java barely supports object oriented programming. Not that there is no such thing. [edit: Why the downvotes? I'

ObamaCare has a few good features - heavy subsidy for those with very low income, and not turning people away who have pre-existing conditions. However, it has some extremely serious downsides. Firstly, it's the same predatory insuran

Only half of the 'android' phones use GMS which is licensed from Google. The others are based on AOSP, and Google has no control over those. Since Android as a whole has around 80% market share globally, Google controls at best 4

Google hasn't 'grabbed the majority of smartphone share'. They sell no smartphones themselves and they license software components that are used in less than half of smartphones. [edit: as usual, a factually correct counterpo

The article assumes this is because of a greater sense of security in the labor market, but they ignore the other possibility - nastier jobs that promise less for the future.

The whole point of mentioning FTL communication is to challenge the idea that we understand enough. Our current understanding of causality makes us believe that FTL communication is 'likely not possible'. If FTL communication is p

Does this have anything to do with thinking, or just the idea that most people are unhappy and want distraction? Is that a surprise given how much of society is devoted to creating distraction?

Objective-C isn't slow. It's a strict superset of C, so anything that C can do fast, Objective-C can do just as fast. If you say Objective-C is slow, you are also saying C is slow. Objective-C provides a message passing mechanis

I am not making a 'repugnant point'. I am in complete agreement that it would be better to fix social problems like prejudice and bigotry. The point I am making is that we don't know how to fix those problems quickly. In t

Google has a definition of what is relevant. It's not hard to come up with one. What is hard is to get people to agree. Right now Google controls the definition, but given it's monopoly status in Europe, it is not surprising th

You have failed to address the point I made. What Google calls Android includes a great deal of closed code. You can make up a private definition of your own if you like, but it's not the one Google uses, so is irrelevant.

Certainly false. Google consistently refers to features of Android that are only in GMS, therefore Android must include GMS. AOSP is just a component of Android.
