The academic study of economics is no different. There is not a science of economics.

I agree that this alternative might be valid. I was merely responding to what you actually said - which was not that you were putting your resources elsewhere, but that you simply didn't want to donate to the individual.

I think criticizing the US Healthcare system is perfectly reasonable. But it sounds as though you think that not donating to this individual will have some indirect effect on improving things for other people in the future.

Android is AOSP + GMS. AOSP is open source, and GMS is not. What do you 'know' about Android, that people 'like me' don't?

Please provide a link to the GMS source code. There is no hate, but there is cyncism, and a desire to not see the future of computing be controlled by a cynical company or misleading statements.

AOSP is open source. GMS is not. Samsung required GMS to make a commercially viable Android handset that consumers recognize as Android. Therefore the Android that Samsung (and the other Android makers outside china) licenses is obviously

Some kind of platonic ideal of economics may be about experienced utility, but in practice it's just more politics.

What Amazon forked is not the Android the licencees like Samsung use. That Android, the one that most people use, is exactly as 'open' as Windows.

What openness exactly are you talking about? This is all closed source code being shared between some of the worlds largest corporations under secretly negotiated contracts. Also you make it sound as though they somehow made peace rather t

Code injection for swift would be great, but there is no reason it would have to be done using either eval or message passing. The debug symbols are enough for the compiler to do hot code replacement, either directly or through trampolines.

I honestly think you're wrong about message passing not being a bottleneck. I think there are things that people simply avoid because they'd be slow in Objective-C, and C isn't powerful enough. I am personally looking forwa

This seems more like a case against message passing. The reason iOS is smooth and fast is that a lot of the heavy lifting is done by optimized pure C code called from objective-C. A major goal for Swift is to let people achieve that kind

Specifying invariants via tests before or during the writing of code is a great technique. Making your whole development approach blindly revolve around one technique is self-evidently a poor idea.

The point is that you also are far from perfect, so it's better for both of you to find ways to be kind to each other despite one another's flaws. Kind doesn't mean pretending to like everything - it just means not creating a

Agreed. It really just tags a particular version of the language. It gives zero commitment from Google about how the language will be evolved or deployed. Unless they do a lot more to make the language into a commons, it's really ju

The politics with Swift are well understood - it's simply an alternative to Objective-C that is technically superior in. A bunch of ways. Objective-C is effectively proprietary, so if you are willing to program Objective-C, you are pr

Was it heavily functional? I've found the compiler works great for regular OO stuff plus heavy use of closures. Most of the reports of compiler problems seem to arise when people use more functional idioms.
