The article sidesteps the question of how this administrator's account was compromised. "Good password not enough" suggests the attacker did not need the password to break in, which would be interesting. Maybe that's all

Fair point. But 90% of Linux submissions are corporate, last I checked. Corporations (usually) do a lot of internal testing before submitting, and then maintainers have to review submissions. This is long before the public ("beta teste

I read HN comments before visiting a submitted link maybe 99% of the time. After that I would visit the link less than 10% of the time. Eternal September[1] hasn't hit us here, and I also attribute that to HN's moderation policy.

Install Thunderbird from a package manager. On Fedora I suppose that's DNF or RPM now, but it used to be yum or RPM. Some analogous folders between Windows and Linux (the File Hierarchy Standard): System-wide binaries (.exe) for userla

Now that's interesting. There's a delay between when a curriculum stream is adopted and when its students start participating in civic affairs. My understanding (unconfirmed) is that participation in Twitter and Facebook is domina

It requires at least education into those tendencies and introspective drills to overcome them. For kids, drills would mean roleplaying with lying games, comparison shopping, that kind of thing. We've understood those tendencies much b

Healthy skepticism is not only easy to teach but easy to drill, and yet I remember no time in my early education that it was even a topic in class, except maybe tangentially - a short story theme, a blurb about a famous scientist or invento

We'd be taxing Twitter and Facebook to make up for everybody's failure in public education, which seems unfair.

I use newsbeuter. I like to keep mine running in a tmux window. Wasn't aware that a popular fork existed. Does Newsboat have any advantages over newsbeuter?

I'll defer to anyone with expertise. I'm modelling a program in Python on a work computer without administrative privileges, which means it has to stay in user space. Because I haven't decided on a final implementation langua

And it's not possible to enable them by default - there is no existing configuration setting to override that design choice. They hope to include the feature in SQLite4, as I understand it.

You just have to write PRAGMA foreign_keys = on; each and every single time you want to do an operation that requires an FK constraint, like `INSERT`.

Foreign keys enabled by default or by configuration setting would be another big feature missing from SQLite3, but I couldn't find any mention of foreign keys in DuckDB's documentation.

Thanks, Hillel! The TLA+ formulation looks good. I was so happy to get your advice that I bought a copy of Practical TlA+ from Apress. Even if it doesn't help with this particular project, I'm sure it will be useful down the line.
